I know Mez prefers to play the right side so we'll see what happens.
We have some huge problems if Gervias is even near the PP.

Giroux was interviewed today on TSN and said he is ready to go.

Yeah I know. This was one of my concerns in the offseason. Timonen is the only PP QB we have. Gus has to win a spot in the top 6 and even he has no experience on the PP in the NHL. Couturier? Maybe, haven't seen enough Phantoms games.

we were using Jake on the point last year, he's got good movement, but doesn't have a big point shot, Coburn has played on the PP in the past, he could be a second unit guy, Mez when he gets back can be on the second unit too

Would we have to give up a 1,2,3 pick?

I like his game.

Its going to take a lot. He is the best prospect on a pretty good D core. They would definitely be asking for a young #1 center in return IMO

Thats true. We could sign him and the send them the required picks or offer a trade for him and then sign him

Edit: trade for him in the same way that Nashville tried to get us to do

Thinking about it, the Flyers never really had two guys on the blueline when correctly set up. Voracek slid down to the right halfboards leaving only Timonen on the blueline. I think we can do the same with a Meszaros-Couturier set-up.

Mez and Couturier could work because Mez has a cannon and Couts is responsible enough defensively if something goes the other way.

If you want to front load the lines:

Hartnell-Giroux-Briere
Schenn-Couturier-Voracek
Read-Feds-Simmonds
Wellwood-Talbot-Rinaldo

Would anyone right now take Laughton over a struggling Wellwood?

Wouldn't mind seeing a 10 game tryout. If he wins a spot he wins a spot.

Yea, I'm curious to see if Laughton or Cousins can take a run at the spot on the 3rd line.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Briere - Schenn - Simmonds
Laughton/Cousins - Couturier - Read
Wellwood - Talbot - Fedotenko
Sestito

Also, am I the only one who likes Sestito over Rinaldo?

Nothing more than the 9 game trial. He needs the time to develop his offensive game.

Jake played the "point" on the 1st PP with Timonen. They run the umbrella so Giroux and Voracek work the half wall, Timonen at the point, Hartnell and Simmonds down low.

Coburn hasn't consistently played the PP since 2010. Even then he's not a QB type which is the need on the second pairing. Mez has a heck of a shot to be a triggerman but even when he was healthy last year Lavs didn't give him consistent time. Gus is the only defenseman I can really see being a QB. Read could possibly do it. Couturier like I said could do it, but I'd be a little bit worried about his foot speed as the lone man back.

Second unit could look like this:

Schenn-Briere-Read
Gus-Couturier

Its pretty likely he goes 4 forwards on both PPs. Just a matter of who QBs it. The second unit lacks a big body presence IMO.

Cousins isn't eligible to be recalled until his season is over.

It would be dumb to play Laughton on the wing.

Wellwood-Talbot-Feds
Rinaldo

All 4 centers being good defensively too.

If laughton is good enough to make th team (which i doubt), I'd assume he is 4c and talbot plays 3lw. I certainly can't see him starting at 3c over talbot.

Why would it be dumb? If i remember correctly he has played wing at times this past season. Nothing dumb trying him there

The reason to play one of the rookies would be to be able to roll 4 lines. No point in playing Laughton if you're gonna tryn hide him at 4C.

I guess that the argument is that his long-term future lays in a shut-down center role, so converting him to wing might be counterproductive to his development (not sure that i agree).

But, for me, its 4c or juniors.
