Calm down, haha. We DO have time to experiment. Last year at this time Canucks were a few points off the presidents trophy (at around games 40-44 etc they were 1st) I think sacrificing the presidents trophy to let Schroeder/Kassian to show their worth is fine.

His toughness and the added depth are worth it IMO. Plus he's a great team guy, awesome in the Community (Big advocate for Children's charities) and best of all... he punched Milan Lucic in the face multiple times.
Couldnt agree more. A solid depth guy who brings some toughness to the back end and is capable of fighting heavy weights if needed. His wife is from Delta so it makes sense that he would like to play here

Points for Dale Weise as a member of the Tilburg Trappers: 48. Goals allowed by the Tilburg Trappers during this time: 43.
Guys, I think we found our much needed top 6 forward.

FWIW, I think we start the season with this as our lineup;

D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Burrows
Higgins - Schroeder - Booth
Raymond - Lapierre - Hansen
Weise - Malhotra - Kassian

Hamhuis - Bieksa
Edler - Garrison
Ballard - Tanev
Alberts

Schneider
Luongo

I think for anyone who watches Connauton on a regular basis, Corrado already has and did so last season.

We don't need a week long training camp to tell us this.

Will Volpatti be at camp? Has he been playing anywhere during the lockout? I didn't see any stats for him this season

Don't understand why they wouldn't bring Corrado in and have him play a few games to GAUGE where he's at. They didn't do it ly with Schroeder and now they don't know for sure (I think he'll be fine offensively but defensively with Booth on his wings I have my doubts though the Badger could be moved up).

impacts needs and trade/signing priorities.

Kassian has all the skill in the world and we're going to let him play on the fourth line with Malhotra and Weise? We need to give him a chance to succeed, at least in a 3rd line scoring role.

Hansen-Lapierre-Kassian

Hansen can play both L and R side

I'm not saying I particularly agree with that slotting, just where I think AV will stick him to start. Guys like Raymond will be given a chance to succeed based on their previous histories.

If Luongo is dealt before the season starts, Ellis could be a possible backup for Schneider this year.

He has stated that he would love to play for the Canucks, and he has posted some pretty good numbers in the AHL this season.
.921 SV%, 2.48 GAA in 18 games.

If the Canucks want a defensively responsible third line, like they have indicated in the past, they won't be going with Kassian.

So Luongo getting carried into the season? I like.

This is what I like for the forwards though:

D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Schroeder - Kassian
Higgins - Lapierre - Hansen
Raymond - Malhotra - Weise

It keeps that 3rd line strong by replacing Raymond with Higgins. It also insulates Schroeder with two big wingers.

I would rather see:

D. Sedin - H. Sedin - Burrows
Booth - Arnott - Higgins
Raymond - Lapierre - Hansen
Volpatti - Malhotra - Kassian
Ebbett

Really? I just can't understand why we wouldn't give our prospects a solid chance to flourish - especially given the circumstances (Kesler out). Arnott is far too slow/old to be playing second line minutes.

I really hope Lu is not carried in to the season. This team doesn't need more circus.

I stated I didn't want much experimentation but I wouldn't mind seeing Schroeder get a few games on the 2nd line. I get the feeling he could be one of those players who isn't that great in the ahl and much better in the nhl surrounded by better players.

Also up start the season I want to see Kassian on the third line. I still remember some of those shifts Kassian Hansen and lappy had.

Agreed, I just really hope we don't get the typical AV move of trying a line out for 2-3 shifts, and then juggling the lines for the rest of the game. Perfect way to damage a young players confidence. Give him 2-3 games, leave him in a spot - then adjust as necessary.

Short season may not give us much time to play around.

Fair enough, but I think the risk of Schroeder (who has been playing regularly with the Wolves) not playing well is at least equivalent of Arnott playing like crap. I'd rather just side with our prospects and give them a chance.

I'd like to believe that but he's going to be playing with David Booth who has no hockey sense or smarts. I do believe Schroeder and Higgins would work nicely though

Booth is a much better goalscorer than Higgins, so while he might lack in the *ahem* nuances of the game, he's far more apt to put pucks in. That's what a playmaker like Schroeder could really use.
