I'm sure the General Managers were talking with each other during the summer prior to the lockout. I mean why else would John Shannon come out and say Luongo to Toronto will happen once a new CBA is reached. As for them talking during the lockout I have no doubt it happened.

Scandella and Connolly are banged up.

Brodin is still out with a broken clavicle.

Wild still need to sign Palmieri, but doing so puts them at the max 50 contract limit.

We may be trading for a d-man to not only fill in for our injured ones, but a couple of players may be on the way out in return to free up a contract spot or two.

I feel the opposite. With a shortened season a lot of teams can jump to a great start and "coast" to the playoffs. GMs are going to want to see how their teams are doing before we have sellers/buyers.

I think the Luongo deal will come faster then a lot of people think. I don't think anyone involved with that situation is going to want to deal with the same questions from the media every day until it's done. Yeah, I say Luongo is the first deal done.

I wouldn't be that surprised if they've had a Luongo deal all planned out for months now, but just couldn't announce it/do it until the new CBA was in place.

I agree. He's just too high a profile player to let it sit and stir. If you look around at every pro league it is rare when a high profile player, who says it's best to move on, isn't dealt sooner rather then later. The last thing the players or the teams want to do is draw attention from the games and have to deal with those same trade questions over and over again.

Yes, they could work out deals. The only problem with the speculation that a Luongo deal was worked out is that he has a NTC and would have to approve any deal but teams were not allowed to talk to players so the Canucks couldn't get his approval. I know there was speculation that he had submitted a list of approved teams but he said that that was not the case and that he hadn't submitted a list of any kind. If that is true, they couldn't have worked out a deal for him.

John Shannon and Maclean have been saying for months now that a Luongo deal is already done. Shannon seems to think a deal with Toronto was done and the lockout was holding it up.

Oh I know that, I was just wondering what he accidentally said the other day.

Not sure because Maclean hasn't kept it a secret about his belief a Luongo deal is done. I think the other poster was probably just seeing it the first time and took notice of it. Probably nothing irregular for those who follow sportsnet.

So likely nothing more than I've seen them say a hundred times during the lockout.
