Dallas - Minnesota

Receive:

Dany Heatley

Receive:

Stephane Robidas

Wild drop 4M in cap and pick up a servicable veteran #3-4 defenseman, while the Stars drop another part of our old leadership core which needs to go. Stars can afford the cap, and while we don't need Heatley, we snap at the opportunity to get a guy like Heatley (although I personally hate him off the ice).

I do think the Wild could get a better deal or simply use a buyout on Heatley, but I just wanted to see if this value was close at all or if this was a possibility.

I don't know what Wild fans who follow the team more would say, but personally I'd say no. While we do need some help on the back-end, we can't really afford to lose Heatley.

Parise-Koivu-Setoguchi
Bouchard-Granlund-Cullen
Mitchell-Brodziak-Clutterbuck
Kassian-Konopka-?

Off the top of my head, that would be the line-up without Heatley, so not really a position the Wild can afford to lose any depth in.

Actually, the line-up would be closer to:

Parise-Koivu-Setogcuhi
Cullen-Granlund-Coyle
Mitchell-Brodziak-Clutterbuck
Veilleux/Dowell-Konopka-Powe

We have plenty of depth in the bottom-6, but not much yet in top-6. That being said, how about Cal Clutterbuck instead? He's an upcoming RFA and his cap hit shouldn't be as bad. He's still young, his offence is still trending upwards and he still hits as much as ever.

So, Clutterbuck+ for Robidas?

The Wild scored the least goals of all teams last year, right?

Not a good idea to get rid of the teams best shooter in that case, yes?

Though they have MG, Parise and Suter this season.. and maybe better health than last season.

Clutterbuck+ for Robidas?

I'm down. What/who would the + be exactly?

I like Maxwell's posts on the Wild board but I don't agree with his trade proposal. I think Clutterbuck is a likely candidate to get traded after the year and hopefully, for more value than Robidas. I don't dislike Robidas, I think he'd be a decent addition to the Wild but not at the expense of Clutterbuck.

I'd definitely do Clutterbuck for Robidas straight up. Trade Morrow for other pieces and give Cal his spot on the 3rd line.

I also disagree that Clutterbuck can get you more value than Robidas. Maybe a bit more, but I don't see it happening. Straight up would be a fair trade that benefits both teams IMO.

I would say that Heatley is no longer the best scorer on that team with Parise there now, although I'm sure Heatley might still put up around 16-17 goals in this shortened season.

The Clutterbuck deal might make more sense, only if Dallas is looking for that prototypical bottom 6 grinding forward.

OK so I don't know the Stars as well as you do obviously but as a rough estimate:

Eriksson-Benn-Ryder
Whitney-Roy-Jagr
Morrow-Fiddler-Heatley
Nystrom-Wandell-Vincour

For the love of Pete!

No, Wild have no interest in getting rid of Heatley at the moment. We need his offense.

I think we might be able to do this deal in a year or so when Coyle and Zucker take top six spots. Robidas probably wouldn't be our target either, we've got enough veterans as it is. Maybe Setoguchi+ for Volchenkov or Cullen for Gonchar?

You have enough veterans as is, then make proposals for Volchenkov and Gonchar...?

Oh look, this comment again. Heatley was indeed a leader in the lockerroom last year. This isn't the same Heatley as the "trade me" Ottawa days.

I could care less about his past issues, it would be great to add Heater to Dallas.

I think a better deal would be Heatley for J-Bo in Calgary.

And what evidence may you have besides the usual platitudes one hears from teammates? It definitely wasn't displayed via an on-ice performance....soooooo, what traits am I dissecting here?

Heatley+Coyle+1st+Gustaffson for P. Kane

Hawks get a short-term and a potential long term replacement plus a 1st and a solid goalie prospect.
