Post Lockout Bold Prediction

Make one Bold Prediction for this up coming season.

I predict the Jackets make the playoffs and win at least one game that we are told is meaningless due to the short season.

At some point during the season, the CBJ will lead the league in GAA.

The CBJ will make the play-offs, but only if the league expands the format to 20 teams. If it remains at 16, they will make a good run for it, but fall short.

With 20 games against the teams in our division, it won't be easy.

Jack Johnson will lead the NHL in points for defensemen and have a +20 +/-

I'm OK with that if the 12th place team is LA Kings or NYR.

We should take this as a foregone conclusion.

Prediction? The NHL "rewards the fans" by doing anything possible to hand the Cup to the New York Rangers this summer. Yes, they still believe that everyone is a Rag fan.

Prediction for the Jackets? We see the most competitive, hard working team we've ever had. They battle hard on a nightly basis, but come up short on the playoff push. We wind up with 1 top-5 pick, 1 top-10 pick, and the Ranger pick becomes #30 after they win the Cup.

With a shortened season and top six that will take some time to gell, I could see this season start off really slow and not have enough time to move up to a playoff spot. However, I don't see us finishing as anywhere close to the worst team in the West never mind the league.

Bold prediction? We have two players with more than a point-per-game pace (more than 48 points). Even as I'm typing it I'm laughing at myself.

Edmonton finishes in 8th in the West, but loses a tiebreaker. From the 14th slot for the lottery, they win again.

Columbus finishes top 10 in scoring and bottom 10 in GA and no one really knows why.

Mason's last game wearing a Blue Jackets jersey will occur sometime before St. Paddy's day 2013.

If there was ever a time for a franchise in transition to make the playoffs this is the time…

We finish ahead of Chicago in the standings, and grab the 7th seed in the playoffs.

Bobrovsky catches fire and we ride him to the Conference Finals.

Johansen makes some spectacular plays to earn a top-6 spot.

Injuries make a Boone Jenner call-up happen in mid-March, and he never leaves the NHL for the rest of his career.

Erixon, Boll, Wiz, and Dubinsky are packaged for another scoring forward in April.

edit: wait, I made more than one. Increases my odds of Nastrodamusing this baby!

... and god decends into the Arena District...

In the end the outcome for the CBJ, and most NHL teams in a 48 game season, will hinge on their goaltending depth... (and defense)...

It would be like a Greek tragedy. Columbus would be one period away from sweeping the Stanley Cup Final, with the hockey media and 99% of Canada tearing their hair out. Suddenly, a god descends from the sky and says, "No no, this isn't right at all. And since I'm a god, let's make things back to the way they should be."

You know, I could actually see a couple of these happening.
