hopefully we can convince Zlobin to spend at least 1 year in the AHL.

If he had no desire to play through an NHL teams organization, why would he go through all the trouble coming over to North America to play Jr hockey?

If it were about the money, he would have been better off playing in the RSL.

Not real sure what his motives are if he seriously doesn't want to play in the AHL.

I guess he might think that he can come back after 2 years in the KHL and jump straight into the NHL.

Same. Something about his attacking instinct that makes me think he'd work well with Bennett in the future.

Ruopp has gotta be the toughest prospect in our system.. Hope he pans out for that reason alone.

Pretty impressive that Bluegers is winning over 60% of his face-offs so far this season, usually young guys in any league struggle to consistently do well on them.

so what do people think about Alex Velischek's chances of garnering an ELC?

18 GP, no goals, 6 assists, team high +14. playing his senior year with future NHL legend Mark Jankowski.

Poop, unless they decide to convert him to wing, which they should, after which his chances are still poop, but just slightly less so.

Eloquent, I know

I'd say none, realistically. I could see him signing with Wheeling outright, but I don't see him getting a NHL deal out of college. I wouldn't be surprised if he signs an AHL deal with someone next year and gets a two-way NHL offer from another team the following off-season. He's just too far the depth chart here to get a shot, even if he switches full-time to wing.

I've liked what I've seen of Velischek in the rookie camps, but that's not enough. I don't see him being signed.

Ruopp hammers away. I love that.

I'm cheering for the guy to pan out, because I think he'd very quickly endear himself to Pittsburghers. He just has that mentality.

Baby Pens got shutout today. Looking through the boxscore it looks like Bennett is out again.

I think Bennett was scratched because he's going to be at Pens training camp.

Tangradi, Bortuzzo and and Bennett were held out for the reason of attending NHL camp.

Yeah, Ruopp definitely fits the Pittsburgh fan favorite archetype. Kind of like Engelland, he's just a mean ******* out there.

He's scratched because he's headed to training camp with the NHL Pens.

It'd be a waste since he's being traded to the Sens for Gonchar.

According to bangbodies.com Strait will join them once he's healthy.

Quote:
The AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, who played in Connecticut today, healthy scratched leading goal scorer Eric Tangradi, leading point getter Beau Bennett, and NHL-ready defensive prospect Robert Bortuzzo. It is believed that Brian Strait will join them, once he gets healthy as well (illness).

I would think all of the players who signed AHL deals would have to report to Pittsburgh, at least on paper, then be assigned accordingly. Strait, Bortuzzo, Tangradi, Thiessen and Zatkoff are all still technically on the Pittsburgh roster.

Shero wants the camp roster to be 24-26 players as it's going to be much more condensed than usual. Ferriero didn't play today and as the guy with the most NHL games of the AHL vets I expect he'll be there along with Tangradi and Bennett (possibly Mac but training camp is basically pointless for a guy with his specific talents). On D Bortuzzo and Strait will be there, maybe Despres and/or Reese but maybe not. Can't see either goalie going as they'll want to give Flower and Vokoun as much rubber as possible.
