Emelin and Diaz were pretty solid last yaer as rookies, we can reasonably expect 20-25% improvement on both.

Bouillon has a long track record and acn be productive in a limited role(#5-6-7)
Diaz also has shown flashes of skill and production.
What results? Really.

Kaberle is terrible. Bouillon is a 7th d at best on a good team. Diaz and Weber are also borderline NHLers.

And we don't have a #1.

Subban is #1

Markov is the wildcard.

True, our PP should be good with Markov too. Our bottom 6 has some real grit now too.

I'm not counting on that top line delivering again like that. Bergevin said in June he's bringing Gomez to camp. I think he's gonna be back with us.

Galchenyuk didn't look that great at the WJC, tho he was on a crap line and did put up points. Worried about his work ethic and lateral skating. Doesn't seem like we'll get any surprises from kids this year either judging from the stats in Hamilton.

Really hoping Eller can break through.

True dat. I was just thinking " wow, it's great to have the habs board buzzing again". Then... " I might regret that".

Lockout ended before my street was fully cleared of snow, btw.

In order.

Sometimes lacks heart, will never play in the NHL again.
Attitude problem, actually the best of this group.

Same. Soon enough there will be a new CBA in place before my side of the street is cleaned.

Diaz is another wildcard here. The guy could be good if he adapts his game to the NHL.

Emelin was really bad last year imo. I don't see him as a top-6 dman.

Then Bouillon? Kaberle? St-Denis?

Emelin was some nights the only entertaining thing on the ice for this team.... he's top 6 for sure, potential top 4.

Kaberle was an all star most of his career, last yaer he had a bad start mostly because he showed up out of shape on a cup hangover. Even if he bounces back to 75% of the year before he is NHL average and two notches above terrible.

Bouillon was #5 in Nashville on a team that finished 5th overall in the whole NHL!!! I'm pretty sure he can contribute as a #5-6 here.

Weber is borderline but he is #8 so nothing wrong with that. Diaz looked like an average #5-6 last year, with normal progression he sjhould be ok as a #4.

Most NHL teams don't have a "true #1". I think Subban and Markov could be that #1 depending on progression and health. Worst case we have a lot of #2-4 guys(Gorges Subban Markov Kaberle Emelin Diaz).

still think those guys would be great depth, with the core group, and that's not including cammy-- the guy who filled up the net in our playoff run or higgins, or the d man we traded to new york

maxpac dd cole
skost pleks akost
latendresse eller gionta
prust lapierre moen

again, that's without cammy. replace cammy with akost if you so desired but that is a a competitive line-up

I would LOVE Lapierre back, but he's always been a favorite player of mine so I guess I'm biased.

Two out of four of those guys will be healthy scratches anyways.

Kaberle is terrible as a 1-4 Dman, give him sheltered minutes as a 5-6 guy with plenty of PP time and he serves a good purpose.
Gorges is a proven shutdown D.
PK is a #1, not sure how people still dare to argue against that.
Markov, is a question mark, but if he can still mostly healthy, we got a great Dman in him. PP QB.
Emelin was impressive in his rookie year, he got invited (as well as Markov) to the KHL all-star game, so I think it's to assume he's doing pretty well over there this year.

So, it's really not THAT bad.
As the 6th Dman, it'll be between Bouillon-Diaz-Weber. I wasn't for Bouillon but he does bring some ruggedness. Not sure what shape he's currently in after this lockout, it'll be interesting to see.
Diaz, is close to averaging 1 pt/gp in Swiss-A league. He's doing very well this year and last season was good for us until getting injured. I fully disagree with you that he's a borderline NHLer. He has his spot imo, and I'd hang on to him. Wouldn't want to lose him the same way we lost Streit.
Weber will likely be moved because of all the same type of Dman we have and how he's behind them all in terms of depth.

I wouldn't call our defense horrible, uni-dimensional is more like it. But we could be a very fast puck moving team.

Yea you are biased because he's a piece of **** yellow yapper that I hope never plays a game with us ever again. I hate players that don't back it up. I'll take Moen, Prust and White over that clown anyday.

But I would take Latendresse back anyday, and Kostitsyn-Eller-Kostitsyn would make a SICK 3rd line. Eller and Sergei would of been great on the pk.

Kaberle I always see as another Brisebois - Soft, Overpaid, but undeniably offensively talented. I think Brisebois was better defensively while Kaberle has better offensive upside.

I, for one, like him on the bottom pairing with a solid shutdown guy as his partner, and PP time, probably first wave, with Markov OR Subban. At worse, second wave.
