Bob Mac said on TSN we're going to trade for a defenseman....

Don't see how the Panthers move their 1st line centre though if they're looking to compete in the playoffs...

Still think Goc, Petrovic and Shore are 3 good targets from the Panthers.
Honestly I would be willing to be it even if we couldn't sign Weiss (With more in the deal of course, a good prospect + conditional 1st perhaps) But he would be a nice rental player, then we could let him go to sign Edler or buyout Ballard and sign both.

Losing Edler so we can get an average/slightly above average player in return for Lu is also a terrible idea.

I'm sure they have no idea who the Canucks are looking at for a trade for Lou. (The talking heads)

I'm in the keep Lou camp if they can't get a top 6 forward or a top 4 Dman

Also, TSN panel was just talking about what the Canucks will look like next yr. Said Canucks are not as deep on defense, Bob Mckenzie said:

"They're going to trade for a defenseman"

He didn't say it was tied to a goalie trade.

Personally, I think they're good on d. Tanev-Ballard are the best bottom pairing in the NHL in terms of ability to play any minutes.

Say what now? Not deep on defense? These guys have been spending too much time talking about the CBA.

I've got the sense this entire time that nobody has any idea. Gillis seems to have a tight silo on information.

Yeah, I am scratching my head on that as well. Our D is pretty damn deep. My only nitpick would be a lack of a blue chip prospect on the back end, but we have some solid up and comers in Tanev, Corrado, McNally, Hutton, etc...

I think Canucks/SJS have the deepest d-core in the league. The TSN guys are drinking IMO

Probably better off doing something around agreeing to take a bad contract where the $>cap and having the Canucks pay it out, in exchange for a team picking up Lou's full contract for 3 years. Just have them pay $1m him to sit at home while they use his cap hit for the floor. Canucks eat a bad $4-5m real dollars deal for 1 year, other team eats Lou's $3m-4m. They come out ahead in real dollars and the cap hit is irrelevant.

Quote:
Why? I don't think anyone is concerned about his current cap hit ($5.33M) or salary ($6.71M) but the term of his contract, if his play declines and he continues to play out the last years of his contract could be a concern for some teams. If he retires at 38 or 39, cap hit and salary are irrelevant.

This type of deal makes the length of contract moot. All of a sudden you are looking at an elite goal tender with a reasonable cap hit on what is essentially a 6 1/2 year contract.
nobody should be scared off by Lou's contract unless they don't feel he is good value over the next 5 or 6 years.

They were really only talking about our third pairing, and how bad Balard has gotten but I assume they don't realize how Ballard wasn't as bad before he got hurt. They also don't seem to know hat we have in Tanev and how well he did with Ballard.

From Florida some of the pieces I am interested in are (Since Bjugstad isn't available):
- Weiss
- Petrovic
- Howden
- 1st
- Goc
- Trocheck
- Shore
- Skille (Obviously isn't that valuable, would be a throw in that could help out our 4th line nicely IMO)

Maybe: Weiss, Petrovic, Trocheck, Conditional 2nd (Turn to a 1st if If Weiss don't re-sign).

Might be a bit much, maybe change Trocheck to something a little less but this is what I would shoot for 1st then move off of it slowly.

we might be deep but we lack 2 things and the D seems pretty unbalanced.

*clear cut #1 (unobtainable)

*offensive Dman (preferably RS).

We know Gillis was after Weber and Schultz. I could see him targetting a RS offensive Dman. Send Ballard away to make it affordable.

Not Shore? If we aren't getting Bjugstad (which is who we SHOULD get) I'd have to have Shore included...along with their 1st.

Weiss+ would be sick. Possibly Weiss+Petrovic? Man that would be close to ideal. When Kesler is 100%

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Booth-Kesler-Kassian
Higgins-Weiss-Raymond
Lapierre-Malhotra-Hansen

Seems perfect.

Don't you think it's weird that a really reputable source in Bob McKenzie would be saying Bozak, pick, and something else and you guys are suggesting things like this? That's pretty damn far apart.

Bob McKenzie isn't very knowledgeable about the Canucks. We won't be getting Weiss for Luongo, let alone Weiss and then some but we may as well buy Luongo out if Bozak is the best he can return.

He's really well-connected. Probably one of the best in the business. I'm not saying it'll be the package he said but Weiss + good prospects seems to be a bit high...

Would move Weiss to the 2nd Line.

Him and Booth have previous chemistry and Weiss is a proven top 6 forward.

Just heard him say that, I am a bit behind, I paused my PVR earlier and just catching up.

So yeah I guess so.

All I know is that there are gonna a lot posters freaking out after the Luongo trade goes down. Realistically there are gonna be fans that are not gonna like the return at all and others that will think it's good and will work out. It's gonna be entertaining.

Some fans are underrating Bozak, he'd be a solid pickup IMO.
