Not the AHL, but close.

Eventful first period for Martinez. Scored his first goal and made a blind pass to give the other team a breakaway goal.

Goal and an assist so far.

Any talk in Manchester about extending the team's lease with the arena? Last I checked (which was in 2007), it runs through the end of the 2014-15 season... and Worcester's apparently about to re-up through that same season (with an option year). There's been a little splash of "AHL teams moving west" rumor from a questionable source, but if both the Kings-owned AHL team and the San Jose-owned AHL team are both moveable in the same off-season, might that open a window?

Geez. Toffoli, Vey, and Pearson are lethal.

I know that Dean Lombardi has openly contemplated having their affiliate located closer to them, but I'm not sure how that would work logistically due to the ECHL factor and the travel that their AHL team would have to endure if they moved out west. The only team on the West is in Abbotsford, BC, and they're affiliated with the Calgary Flames. Then you have three teams in Texas (Cedar Park, San Antonio, Houston) and Oklahoma.

Here's an AHL league map:
https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msa=...4&source=embed

AHL league directory:
http://theahl.com/team-map-directory-s11579

While it may seem conventional to have a minor league affiliate in close vicinity, I don't think all the travel the players on their minor league club will benefit much from a move, unless as you suggested, multiple teams decided to move out west.

As Ziggy said if multiple teams moved west it could happen but otherwise I doubt it. The travel cost for the Monarchs is very low! They stay in a hotel only a few times a season and nearly never fly. Compare to a team like Abbotsford who fly's everywhere and stay at hotels all the time.

On a personal side I would love it if they moved to Hartford in the AEG owned XL center (old home of the whalers). It turn my 2 hr 15 min drive to Manchester into a 15 min. drive to Hartford. ;-)

How about moving them to KC? AEG will get some use out of that stadium, they'll be closer (though still not close), and they won't have horrendous travel to play other teams....

Yep. They're stealing Kozun's thunder. This was Kozun's big chance to show Kings management that he's ready for the next level. Oops!!!

If they move to KC they might as well move to Ontario or San Diego (both managed by AEG as well), because it'll still be a plane flight to their nearest opponent (OKC). Like others have said, a move West would involve coordination with other teams like the Sharks and Ucks.

Kozun is doing okay for himself. Has got a nice 9 goals and 14 assists this years so far. Good for 3rd on the team in scoring behind (Toffoli and Vey)

---------

Linden Vey is a guy stealing someones thunder this year! Namely Andrei Loktionov.

I don't think you be out of line if you argued that Vey is ahead of Loktionov now. Vey has been very impressive and has shown some fantastic play making abilities. Currently he leads the team in points with 27 after 35 games (8 goals & 19 assists) Although in 26 games Loktionov has racked up 18 points (6 goals & 12 assists) So, Lokti hasn't exactly fallen of the face of the earth either.

But given Vey's ability to play the wing and the fact that Loktionov has asked to be traded. Liden Vey is the center to keep your eyes on coming out of Manchester.

Portland Pirates in on the West too. Coyotes affiliate. Oh snap, my bad, Portland, Maine!

I don't get why there are 3 teams in Texas. There should be something in Vegas or San Diego. San Francisco just got the ECHL again, No Cal is big and they like hockey and the Sharks are in San Jose. I don't anything any AHL will succeed in Arizona or New Mexico. There used to a Utah team, they folded. What about Kansas? Washington (Seattle)?

Here's my guess at the lines with Nolan, King, and Voynov on the Kings:

Pearson - Vey - Toffoli
Cliche - Loktionov - Kozun
Clune - Andreoff - O'Neill
Meckler - Weal - Legein

Not sure about the dman pairings, except that Deslauriers will take Voynov's spot. Kolomatis as the spare.

I don't come around these parts often so I'm sure this is covered but.... I was expecting a little more offense from Voynov, what's up with that? and as a side question is Loktionov going to get a good shot at the NHL or is he getting traded/going back to Mother Russia. Thanks Kings fans!

Any opinions on Voynov?

I haven't seen him in Manchester, but usually a decline in production from an offensive defenseman in a lesser league indicates he is either nursing an injury or be more defensively disciplined.
