Pronger's medical status has not changed but it appears he will be attending camp.

The Flyers are all returning home after the lockout. Even their captain, injured defenseman Chris Pronger.

According to a report from SportsNet Canada’s Dan Murphy, Pronger will not be on the ice but will still attend the Flyers’ condensed training camp when it commences this week.

Reportedly, revenue sharing is 200 million dollars with a 60 million dollar growth fund, whatever that is. 60 million dollars is about 15% of last year's revenue. I'm assuming the 200 million dollars is just the TV contract. 15% is probably half of what we'd need to ensure there aren't cancelled games at the end of this CBA. Realistically, it's even less than half.

Going by assumptions and mental math...that's not enough. If the league has more explosive growth and the cap rises too fast, we will end up in the same situation where teams are losing money trying to keep up. We'll probably have another lockout.

HBO Canada is running the entire 24/7 Flyers/Rangers series right now.

It's not like I needed any other reason to start getting pumped about NHL hockey, but this is a nice touch.

One rule I really like is the variance rule where the last year can't be less than 50% of the highest year

There was always going to be another lockout at the end of this CBA. It is easy to say, "increase revenue sharing!", but how do you do it? The Maple Leaf franchise is worth 1B because of their revenue, if you hack it up too much you decrease their value far more than you increase the bottom feeders' - which hurts the overall league health more than it helps.

Until the NHL gets a respectable TV contract (or until the players understand that the league is a 3rd world country in the sports landscape) then there will always be some sort of lockout.

looks like they are all awake from sleeping, and back getting all of this set on paper for the lawyers, court, etc. I'll be happy once both sides vote and ratify and its sealed and done and hockey is open for business again.

Tim Pannachio and Al morganti are expected on 1 hr special on CSN at 7pm tonight

There's always gonna be a lockout, but it doesn't need to cost you half a season because you're trying to hack a chunk out of the players' share to cover your losses.

based on the 380 million dollars generated by profitable teams versus the 130 million in losses from the struggling teams, 35% revenue sharing would easily cover the losses when you consider player share is dropping. Sure, it reduces franchise value a bit...but it also promotes stability and allows Bettman to say "Hello networks. Look! We won't need to lose loads of games to cover our financial bleeding anymore. You can pay us more now." It's beneficial to the league in the long run.

They also won't kill their momentum every time interest in the league is on the rise.

during the CSN special, Tim was also talking about how the NHL recovers, plus the TV contracts are up in Canada, and sponsors 1 big one Molson will be in search of represensable damages. they were saying a lot of sponsors aren't happy with NHL.

“@FriedgeHNIC: NHL sends memo to clubs indicating no camps before Saturday (and may not open until Monday), 48-game season to begin Jan. 19”

@TheFourthPeriod: All 30 teams will be playing on Jan. 19, throughout the entire day

To buy out players like Gomez who aren't performing up to their contract.

Buy outs count as a move in the league. Since Pronger is on the injured reserves, he can't be placed on the unconditional waiver list

Was snider a major factor for this season not starting on time, aka Jacobs?

So the next step is for the NHL's new CBA to be ratified which, if I understand this correctly, means it has to be approved by Ken Linesman.

Bill Mellzer is tweeting about "Recapturing" penalties for players we signed before. Richards, Carter, and JVR. I haven't found an article on this, but am extremely interested to see what those penalties are.

Molson wont win any court case IMO

All contracts with sponsers have protection built in by leagues in event of labor strife. It is a risk when you enter into contracts with professional sports leagues

Reading Meltzer's tweets about this just piss me off.

If the NHL was so pissed about the deals they should have just rejected them. It's ridiculous that the team who traded for these contracts bears no responsibility.

That's true, but it's not good that the sponsors are furious. It's another area where the league has to re-build goodwill. They really have to stop the trend of disastrous lockouts.
