Trouba is like Chara, Weber, Pronger and Karlsson all rolled into one. Even see flashes of Lidstrom, Coffey and Orr a few times per period. Best D in the world under 30 for sure.

I like Trouba a lot and while I wanted him at the time of the draft, I'm still willing to give Dumba some more time to get his game figured out.
That being said, the prospect in the WJC I'm most wishing we would have picked up in the 2012 Draft was Jake McCabe. Looked like a true leader out there every game and absolutely took control of that semifinal game against Canada. Kind of reminded me of Brian Rafalski in the USA/Canada prelim game in the 2010 Olympics.
Yeah, I wanted McCabe a lot. Not sure if he was on our drafting radar, but I know he got picked only 1 or 2 spots in front of us.
We could've had him if we didn't lose the 2nd in the Burns trade (not saying I regret that deal). Although, San Jose sending that pick to Tampa for Dominic Moore was facepalm worthy (a bad trade even if you're trying to solidify your bottom six for a playoff run).
I will say, Buffalo had three great picks in a row (Grigorenko, Girgensons, McCabe).
And the funny thing is, they packaged their 2nd rounder and Nashville's 1st (from the Gaustad trade - IIRC) to move up to select Girgensons. They used Calgary's 2nd rounder on McCabe (which they got in that lopsided Robyn Regehr trade).

It's kind of amazing how many teams, inlcuding the Wild, have overpaid in a trade for the turdsandwich that is Dominic Moore. It's facinating.
I see trouba as a more physical Suter, a guy who is really solid in his end can lead the play up ice but his hits are something to behold.
Where he really would be nice is with Brodin, much like people are claiming Dumba would be that ideal dman to pair with Brodin. I think that Trouba would be better because of his more complete game, Trouba is just a beast in his own zone, and as he has shown he has some offense to go with this game.
its a shame we didnt take him but we'll have to make do with dumba.
i'm quite curious to see why Wild called dumba up for the camp, i'm hoping he develops well don't get me wrong, i want the guy to be a stud, only time will tell tho.
thing is, Trouba looks like he can anchor his own pairing and Dumba doesn't. That doesn't mean Dumba won't be as effective, but that he'll be more dependent on his partner to play up to his potential. It'll take a few weeks but I'll be looking to unscientifically gauge any drop off in play in Suter and Weber. Very curious.
I understand he is a long term project but I have been scratching my head over him for sometime now.. I keep thinking we should be seeing some sort of solid play / point production every once in a while.
Me and a couple others still have some hope left in Phillips. I think people are much too concerned about him. Comparing his stats with Coyle's, and there's only a slight disadvantage to Phillips.

Some people who have watched most Aeros games would say that he's still promising and he has all the tools (his skating has improved BTW) to become a decent NHLer. Maybe not top line but still playing in the NHL in the future.
See last 5 Aeros games for example. I mean, take a look at the ton of chances he had in these games.

anyone think higher of him than I do?
It sounds like he is going to be put in Granlund's spot for right now, so we'll see how he does there. Hopefully he can go on a little run here.

I am not too worried about his point production but it should be higher than it currently is at in Houston... I just don't see how he is going to ever fit in, in time with this organization. Time will tell but I am really hopping that once the season starts (NHL) Phillips quietly starts to produce in Houston.
It would really suck to have a 1st round pick end up being a 4th line guy, but heck it could be worse. Not trying to jump the gun, the kid still has a couple years to develop
I suppose he could be the offensive-oriented guy on an otherwise defensive 3rd line. It won't be the greatest use of his offensive nature, but I really don't see him beating out Koivu, Parise, Granlund, Coyle or Zucker for a top 6 spot.
Maybe if Zucker and Granlund become who we think they will, we can sneak him on their RW, but I don't know.
