I don't know if we listened to the same interview, but it sounds like Gillis-speak to me. That is, nothing is set in stone. All he said is that he is optimistic that Kesler is rehabbing well, not that he would be ready. Nothing in the interview seemed to suggest that he will be ready for next week. Hopefully you are right!

He's been rehabbing for a good 8 months without any physical tear or wear on his body from Hockey. I wouldn't be surprised if he's ready to go right at the start or that he exaggerated his injury to milk out his insurance compensation.

I think this lockout is a blessing in disguise for Canucks, all players must be 100% and no stanley cup final hangover.

This is not what he said at all. He said he was optimistic about Kesler's recovery but couldn't give a exact date of when they expect him to be ready.

Kes isn't ready to go. I don't know why you're trying to spin it like that.

Did Kesler still get paid during the lockout even though he was injured? His agent also gets a percentage of it as well? I saw this multiple times, could be wrong though. If this is true, perhaps he was rehabbing his injury longer then needed and he could be in fact, ready to play.

Yep, players injured prior to the lockout were paid normally while they are rehabbing (and I think they have access to team doctors/facilities).
Once they are deemed fit to play, they lose all of that.

And players who are injured during the lockout while playing overseas get none of those benefits.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Who knows, maybe Kesler is fit to play, or close to it and all they wanted was just to keep getting paid. I know I'd do it if I were in his position.

Kesler isn't the one that decides when he's fit to play. I hate these conspiracy theories. These are professionals, especially Kesler's agent.

Yes he is. I dont know what people think about doctors but it isn't like the show House. They are hardly geniuses, they use machines and get most of their diagnoses with symptoms you explain. If you claim you are feeling stiffness here or there, or it still hurts or things have got progressively worse, the doctor is goign to say you've taken a step back

In the end, the player almost always has the ability to sway the diagnoses to however he pleases. To some extent

I think alot of times, its up to the player whether hes comfortable enough to resume

If hes at all concerned, and could go either way, he'll side with caution if it means getting paid. If it meant playing, he may side with that hes ready. The timeframe where you can go either way is quite long, from my experience with injuries

Once it gets close to being ready, i think the players evaluation of themselves has alot of pull

I see it all now. Gillis finds a quality 2C and Kesler returns as 3c for the playoffs. LTIR ftw

Wonder if anyone has an opinion about the relationship b/w Kesler and AV????

Not suggesting anything but wonder if anyone has any insight here.

AV may choose his words poorly at times and piss off some of his players because of it but I would be surprised if their relationship is toxic. Vigneault has always loved Kesler's game and given him every opportunity to play and succeed.

It was a different situation with Hodgson. Vigneault threw him under the bus before ever developing any kind of positive relationship.

Agreed. Kesler knows damn well how AV feels about him as a hockey player. He plays on the #1 PK, #1 PP, and often leads all forwards in ice time on any given night. It's very easy to forget the odd negative comment when the coach plays you in such a roll.

Kesler will be back in about a month or so. Should be a good thing as he will still get in around 30-35 games before the playoffs start.

Lalji retweeted this guy so it's got to be legit.

@dowbboy: Mike Shanahan has proclaimed Ryan Kesler "ready to go".

Fair enough, a lot of people have missed it. I just thought it was a pretty funny play by Dan Murphy.

Home ice is overrated these days. It doesn't even come into play until when and if there is a game 7. Futhermore, I'm not even convinced starting at home is even an advantage in a series... You have to win on the road to win a series and it sure as hell didn't slow LA down...

Again, a healthy Kesler for the playoffs is far more important then trying to squeek out a higher seeding.

For all I care, they can finish seventh if everyone - including Kesler - is healthy.

In the 2011 SCF run:

Home Wins: 1, 1, 1, 2, 3, 3, 3, 4, 4, 4
Home Losses: 1, 2, 2, 4

Road Wins: 1, 2, 2, 2, 3
Road Losses: 1, 1, 3, 4, 4, 4,

In elimination games:

Home Wins: 1, 3
Home Losses: 1, 2, 4

Road Wins: 2
Road Losses: 1, 1, 4

numbers 1-4 are the playoff rounds

so:
10 Home Wins
5 Road Wins
5 Home Loses
6 Road Loses

Home Ice is important for us. Sure in the Regular season we have a great home record but in the post season....

@BenKuzma tweets

"Kesler's only comment after UBC skate was that range of motion with repaired left shoulder still a problem. Can't raise arm above shoulder."
