Top 4 Dman to Nashville

Poile and Trotz expressed a need for "plan B" after Suter chose to sign with Minnesota. For the time being, Roman Josi will play with Weber on the top pair. While Josi likely is the heir apparent to Suter, I'm not sure he's ready for that just yet.

There were rumors back in the summer that Nashville had talked to both Pittsburgh(Martin) and Calgary(Bouwmeester), and had also attempted to sign Matt Carle before he signed with TB.

The Predators have roughly the money they had earmarked for Suter in the budget, so dollar amount shouldn't concern them. They likely don't want someone signed to an overly long-term contract, since Josi likely WILL be ready in the next 2 years or so.

Prospects and picks likely going to be the returnable assets, as I know the Predators were pleased to be returning most of their forward corps from last season-- one which contributed to the number one PP in the NHL and the 8th best GF.

Make an offer!

I'd suggest something around Hjalmarsson for Smith but I don't think Pred fans would like that. It does help both teams as Smith can play #2C but Smith is probably the best offensive weapon the Predators have had in a while. That being said, I still think the Predators would be fine without him.

Smith is worth more than that.

On no planet would Gunnarson get you Wilson. For some reason, Wilson is seen as some sort of "bust," even though he's been close to 20 goals the last two seasons, despite constantly being in Trotz's doghouse for his defensive game. He may have weaknesses defensively, but his ability to score goals and make plays is not at all in question. He's not going anywhere.

I like Franny, and was sad to see him go, but he's not a top 4 defenseman now and probably never will be. He would essentially be competing for icetime with Blum or Ellis, and I don't see him supplanting either.

Wilson

Nashville gets a top for d man on a short term respectable contract and a c prospect with size, skill, and two way ability. The leafs get a very big upgrade on colborne thats another option other then connolly and bozak for the top line.

Hjalmarsson for Wilson? Hammer always seemed like the perfect Pred.

I like Liles a lot, but I'm not sure he's the best fit...and i don't like him enough to give up Wilson.

Phaneuf is about the only Leafs defenseman I could see parting with Wilson for, and that's obviously not going to happen.

Wilson centering JVR would be intriguing.

But it looks like they are not willing to move him.

Liles with Weber would be a decent move until Ellis is ready.

Liles + 2nd
for
Wilson + 4th

Yeah I think wilson will be very good in the near future, I just don't know if it will be for nashville or not. He just hasn't clicked there but with that being said watch him break out this year lol. What do you think about a Liles, macarthur, colborne deal for wilson and a 2013 2nd or 3rd ?

If the Hawks and Preds were willing to deal with each other(not likely unless one of them is out at the deadline, since I think they may be in a three way race with Detroit for second place in the Central) I like Hammer as an option, but not at the cost of Colin Wilson.

Tootoo isn't our problem anymore, he's a Red Wing

I'd be interested in moving Liles, don't know much about the Nashville roster so I can't say waht wouldbe a fair return.

Liles is best suited for as a good seocnd pairing d-man, and is a great PP QB.

Our biggest needs are centres, goalies, or a second pair defensive d-man

Based on my guess about what happens with Martin, there`ll likely be a number of good choices available for dirt cheap in the summer, but not right away.

Martin seems like he'd be a cheap to acquire solution for an effective partner for Weber.

Columbus has a pretty good crew of D prospects. Don't see the need for a trade.

There was quite a bit of talk out of Nashville and Pittsburgh last summer that Shero and Poile had discussed Martin. I think that if Pittsburgh gets Gonchar, you'll see Martin dealt to Nashville in short order. If they don't get Gonch, I imagine PIT will want to hang on to Martin.

Rostislav Klesla for a forward who can help Phoenix's pathetic power play?

Franson isn't close to a top 4 D.

As for Gunnar, good player, but with Josi, Ellis, and Blum, we have plenty of young D. A vet is really what we need.

I would absolutely love to bring in Hjammer, but I don't think we can afford to lose Smith for him. Smith is the only Pred who has a chance to be a true first line center IMO (Wilson is a winger).

Liles is someone I have thought about and like, but not for Wilson. I'd offer a 2nd, and that's about it. He is getting very old, and not a big fan of his contract.

The only way I see this working is if something else is adding. Hjammer+Shaw for Wilson+Hannan or something.

Again, like Liles, not for Wilson.
