I know that you've been away for a while, but Lindholm is a hell of a lot closer to being untouchable than Vatanen.

But for a team like Buffalo that just needs him to take defensive matchups to allow their young kids to do their own thing as well as helping mentor them, I think he would be a good addition. Leopold isn't exactly a high price to pay either.
Makes sense. I'd probably do the Leo for Manny trade, then.

Seriously: I'd probably want a pick for him, at least a 2nd. That, or a young above average bottom 6 player.

That being said, Buffalo wouldn't be ill advised to hold on to both Leo and Regehr. For one, it's not like we couldn't use them (injuries during a condensed season) and if we play our cards right, they could both fetch overpayment at the trade deadline.

On another note, what would Pittsburgh want from Buffalo for D. Jeffrey? How about Nathan Gerbe?

I would definitely do a 2nd for Regher. That seems kind of low value though. Do you think something like a 2nd + Ben Holmstrom would do it? He's a good bottom 6 C prospect with decent 2-way upside.

Prospects other than Kreider. Skjei maybe.

Brian Boyle

Anton Stralman if Sauer recovers.

Gaborik, maybe. Probably only after we win a cup.
Don't get greedy. A vet bottom pairing defenseman for a playoff run will suffice.

Pens need a top line winger and maybe a top pairing D-Man.

Only a few roster players that won't be moved (Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Letang).

I don't think any prospects are untouchable depending on the return.

I think Philly could have interest in Bernier to give Bryz some competition.
Gagne, Penner, Richardson and Scuderi are UFAs to be in the next offseason.
Potential movement to resign or replace them.

Also potential movement for some of the RFAs: Clifford, Lewis, Nolan, Voynov, Martinez if extensions talks aren't going good.

Hickey/Drewiske might be available because of lack of roster spots and contract status (waiver eligible).
Tough guy Kevin Westgarth might be also available.

Marc Andre Cliche, Richard Clune could probably be opting for a better luck to try to make it to the NHL with some other organization...

You are welcome to throw in Danny B. anytime

I'm not that high on Regehr anymore. He's a quality guy for sure and can still be an intimidating presence on the blueline, but if you're looking for the player he was a couple of years ago, you're gonna be disappointed.

That being said, he's the kind of player contending teams might be willing to overpay for at the deadline. So, who knows, a first rounder or a good prospect could be on the table.

Concerning Holmstrom, I don't know too much about Flyers prospects. Could he be relied upon immediately as a bottom six player? What player could he be compared to? Isn't he a little old for a prospect?

Probably not enough quality players for a top pairing dman, but maybe a decent #2 centre.
A little different now with Justin Schultz's emergence in OKC. He'll be top 4 to start but his ceiling is now top 2.

Needs:

A youngish top 4 D-man with good positional awareness, more grit than puck moving skill, could develop into a shutdown top 2.

Two quality two-way bigger forwards to be plugged into our fourth line now, but will play third line minutes and to become third liners when Horcoff and Smyth go next offseason.

Second line center - if Gagner is dealt. Could also be addressed in draft. More a future need than a current need.

Bait:

Hemsky - I recall there was some kind of agreement not to trade him until this year's deadline when he signed his renewal last deadline, but it's not an NMC.

Whitney
Gagner
1st rounder, 2nd rounder, ANA's 2nd rounder.
Pajaarvi
Eager
Jones
Omark

I proposed Raymond for Boychuk or Dalpe. UFA after this year and basically covers for the loss of Ruutu for this season. We have too many guys on the left side and need a player that can play wing and center.
How about Boychuk and a 4th for Raymond?

I'd do it. UFA for UFA. I'd also do Tyler Kennedy for Murray.

Basically, if we could get a solid third liner for Murray, I'd pull the trigger.

I'd easily pull the trigger on that second deal if Volchenkov was willing to waive his NTC/NMC.

As for the first one, how is Bouchard's health going into this season?

I have to admit I'm not fully educated on MDZ, but I'm pretty sure he's just the ticket. Just very unsure on his value mostly. I know it has risen tremendously last season. Our potential D:

Enstrom - Byfuglien
MDZ - Bogosian
Hainsey - Trouba
Stuart as the 7th
MDZ is not being shown the door, NY will pay to keep.
However, I could see a D -possibly him -- moved. Postma would make that happen sooner than later in that a bottom pair D with slight upgrade potential is coming back.

but the key here is what would you offer?
MDZ was like 22nd overall, and is contributing now. A #15ish overall is a reasonable gamble but still a gamble and you have to wait for the pick to develop as hoped.

So how much do you add to the base of your 1st and Postma for Del Zotto?

I don't see that helping much though. Does Raymond really offer much more to the Canes than they already have? I mean Chad LaRose has scored more goals than Raymond in each of the last 2 seasons.

For me, I'd rather see the Canes give these prospects (Dalpe, Boychuk, Bowman) a chance rather than trading them after they finally look like they might be progressing. If the Canes do trade them, then make it part of a package to really improve the team.

As far as the Canes needs, it really depends if one of the young guys can step up and handle the 3C role. If they can't, then 3C is the biggest need on the forward front, even with Ruutu out. It would allow top 6 lines of:

Tlusty-Staal-Semin
Skinner-Staal-Jokinen

I agree that a top 4 D is another need though. That D of Pitkanen, McBain, Faulk, Gleason, Harrison and Corvo scares me. They'll probably be able to put up points, but Cam Ward's going to see a lot of high quality scoring chances.
