Bob McKenzie figures both Steve McCarthy and Steve Begin will attend Calgary's camp.

Other possibilites (Interesting players who have signed AHL deals since the lock-out), include:

ANA: Troy Bodie; Jay Rosehill; Ryan Parent;
CGY: Barry Brust; Danny Taylor;
CAR: Dan Ellis;
CHI: Brett Lebda;
DAL: Cam Barker (Was on an AHL deal but was released to play in the Spengler Cup)
DET: Jeff Hoggan
EDM: Nathan Deck
FLA: Mike Mottau; Jon Sim; Jared Gomes;
LAK: Bryan Rodney; Peter Mannino;
MTL: Mike Commodore; Zack Stortini; Stefan Chaput; Antoine Corbin;
NJD: Raman Hrabarenka
NYR: Matt Gilroy
TOR: Paul Ranger;
WAS: Jeff Taffe;
WPG: Raymond Sawada;

I agree with the McCarthy and Begin invitations.

The Calgary/Abbotsford goalies are interesting. I wonder if that situation is going to force a rethink about Irving's place in the organization.

Dan Ellis should have a backup job in the NHL. Everyone seem to think he's terrible, when he was actually solid for Anaheim, he just had groin issues last season. Seems like he's been good in the AHL this year too. I hope the Canes gives him a look.

The Flames have an abundance of goalies in their system, will be interesting to see how it plays out. Personally, I think Ramo will the next #1 in Calgary.

Irving and Karlsson will likely battle for the backup position with the loser perhaps traded. Brust/Taylor continue to play in Abbottsford. Like I said, Ramo will likely come over when Kiprusoff is done and the Flames also have solid prospects in Brossoit, Gillies & Ortio.

Definitely put-up or shut-up time for Leland Irving.

What does this mean if he does? i don't understand how it works when an undrafted player gets invited to camp. Can they just be signed by any team? If so, why would they even bother to enter the draft a year later when they can simply sign with any team they want.

I'm looking at you EA Sports.

Any idea if Sergei Samsonov will still attend the Sharks camp?

I believe for CHL players if they're passed over in two years of draft eligibility then they become UFAs...

If I'm right, since he was born in the summer of 93, he was eligible for the 2011 and 2012 drafts... nobody picked him so he'd be free to sign wherever he chooses.

I'm surprised he can't at least get on as a #6/#7 Dman in the NHL.

He'd be worth a look from an Oilers POV.

Seems to be some buzz on twitter that a couple of guys that have been in the KHL for the past seasons might get tryout looks or even outright contracts...Alexei Yashin, notably.

Hasn't that been the rumor since he left?

None of those guys will play for the Habs, fwiw. Corbin is a rookie FA, just a prospect pickup, nowhere near ready. Chaput has been decent called up for checking from the ECHL, but isn't on the NHL radar at all. Stortini has been awful, a complete liability even at the AHL level. Commodore was what the Hamilton Bulldogs needed as a veteran presence on an otherwise ridiculously inexperienced AHL defense, but the Habs have 9 other guys ahead of him on the depth chart (Subban, Gorges, Markov, Kaberle, Emelin, Diaz, Weber, Bouillon at the NHL level, then St-Denis as the better player in Hamilton).

I don't think he'll get an invitation now until the offseason and the development and rookie camps are held. Those are probably the best two opportunities to work with an undrafted player still in the W.

Good for him, I hope the year off allowed his injuries to heal to the point where he gets some confidence back

I don't know what kind of deal Tim Stapleton is on in the KHL, but I wouldn't be surprised if he attended the Jets camp.

Svatos sucked in a big way when he played for Nashville. Maybe he...doesn't, now?

per Kevin Dupont https://twitter.com/GlobeKPD/status/288394893003468800

Quote:
Per agent Matt Keator: ex-Bruin Paul Mara hitching on w/ HOU in AHL, hoping for shot at Minny roster.
EDIT: Though, as Mike Russo notes, if the Wild do the expected and re-sign Nick Palmieri they will already be at 50 contracts, and will need to move someone if they are to sign Mara to an NHL deal.
