I haven't read any real negative comments about this hire. Most everything I've read has either been "great hire" or "give the Bills credit for trying something different this time, not the same-old...time will tell if it works or not." Schefter on ESPN said that he impressed pretty much every team he interviewed with (Chargers and Browns specifically), and that one of his sources felt Marrone was going to be the best HC out of this year's crop of candidates.
Of course, we'll see what results he can get on the field, but it's hard to be unhappy with this hire. Previous HC experience, previous NFL experience, well regarded and coveted by other teams, and picked Buffalo over those other teams...I'm cautiously optimistic about this hire.
Now we need to get a good DC, resign Byrd, Levitre, and McKelvin (who was serviceable at CB as well as returns), get a good draft, and hopefully this team can show signs of improvement next year.

Like I said earlier, that'll be my main concern with Marrone. I don't know enough about him or the Syracuse program to really judge if I like the hire or not just based on him coming in, but if he surrounds himself with capable coaches I'll feel a lot better about it.
I don't think we'll have to worry about a guy from the Bronx being passive on the sidelines either.
I was disappointed at first (wanted Smith or even Whiz) but I'm fine with them going in a new direction. HC was a quick pickup, hopefully they can round out the rest of the staff in a timely fashion and start prepping for the draft.

He was the OC for the Saints from 06-08. But we all know Brees ran that show. He was the Jets OL Coach from 02-05. The Jets stunk back then if memory serves.
Kelly to stay in Oregon. Eagles and Browns must move on.

It would be nice, but it's going to be hard to pull off. Coming to Buffalo to be a DC for a brand new HC vs. being a HC somewhere else is going to be hard to sell.

I think what's telling is Marrone flew out to Arizona to meet with them. You might have figured "oh, it's a short drive down the Thruway, they'll interview him after hitting up Arizona and Denver (since they're still playing)", etc. He really wanted the Bills job that he flew out there for the whole week.
As to whether the Bills wanted him as badly...they clearly thought highly of him. I don't think the number of interviews means they wanted him from the start, but rather as they were narrowing down their choices he kept making the cut, and they probably wanted to go deeper. If anything, it's a good sign that they were diligent and really vetted the candidates before agreeing. I imagine they had multiple meetings with some of the other guys on their radar (notably Whisenhunt, given all the early speculation on how much they liked him).
Oh, and I would hardly call Jauron or Gailey the sort of disciplinarian Marrone is.

But I don't just cut Fitzpatrick because he's not an elite QB. He's better than half the NFL QBs in completion percentage and he's in the upper half of TDs.
He's also better than half the league in throwing interceptions and losing games. Let's not leave those important stats out too.

His INT's went down by 7. With the same TD's. that is a bit encouraging. I know he's thrown INT's with the game on the line but what about the D not showing up for tennessee and the second NE game?(He did his part to win those days, they didn't) The Rams game was bad but I still blame Gailey, the whole 2nd half they abandoned Spiller(like in the 4th in Indy and the 2nd half in Houston) The only game I really was mad was the Miami game. Though, Johnson's early fumble may have changed the whol complexion. The blowouts to me are on the whole team.

Interesting, under Payton...Payon called the plays but Marrone over saw it all. I'm surprised he's not following sean's foot steps.
I just hope he doesn't try to make Fitz like Brees. Thats what Gailey did. Guy got way too pass happy. I wouldn't even care if Brees were here, should still be a run first team no matter the QB because of how good the RB's are.
