I just quoted his faceoff percentage and stats within two seasons. Even pointed out the faceoffs taken were close to each other but Hendricks had more. What else could you possibly want? What he smells like?

Something more than points and faceoff percentage, obviously. Especially when those stats don't lead to the conclusions you're making.

Ribs is the type of player who creates back door tap-ins more frequently than he serves up one-timers to the slot. He had plenty of success with Brendan Morrow as his primary finisher in Dallas. He's not dependent on having a sniper on his wing, and could potentially do very well with guys like Brouwer and/or Laich who can handle the dirty work. If you really desire a sniper-type, it would probably be wiser to initially give Wolski a shot than take apart the Ovie-Nicky combo.

I do admit it makes sense from a zone start perspective to have 8 and 9 on the same line.

Hmm good points, but I still think splitting up OV and Backstrom can make the team harder to play against especially now that Ovechkin would have a legit center to play with.

How about GA/60 in 4 v 5 situations?

If you're referring to the "stats" on those, I'm just as glad he doesn't. Those are absolutely garbage, with no standardized definitions or league-wide normalization.

Also what would averaging prove anything?

That's like saying the player that played 3 games and scored 5 goals is better than the top goal scorers because their "percentage is better".

Clearly someone has never played hockey before. Peace.

Requesting more useful data is an insult? News to me.

Since when is 1:30 AM late for a grown man in college?

I see the Caps board is up to its usual sitcom shenanigans. And with a new character, to boot!

Hockey's back, thats for sure. Why else would people be arguing the merits of Jay Beagle? To that end, Beagle was a helluva player in the playoffs. I thought he was one of our top 5 forwards. Killed penalties with aplomb, protected leads, and blocked a ton of shots. Hunter had him as a go to player, thats for sure, by looking at his TOI.

I hope the Caps can make the playoffs, or this season will be a waste of Mike Ribeiro.

That's a 4% difference, not a .4% difference, and it's pretty significant.

Ignoring the fact that playing Beagle and playing Hendricks aren't mutually exclusive ideas, Hendricks, at Beagle's age, had never played an NHL game, much less scored an NHL point. Beagle has yet to be given a full season at the NHL level. It's reasonable to expect that he'd improve his production if he was.
Lost in all the hilarity so far, to be fair, 4% faceoff difference actually isn't that big a deal. It's like, what, 1 faceoff per game or less? [EDIT: wow, Beagle only took 5 faceoffs per game last season if I'm reading NHL.com right? So 4% is like 1 faceoff every 4 games then when you're around 50%?) Since there's no way to really quantify the "clutchness" of the faceoffs (unless someone tracks them by zone or situation or whatever) they could live with the change in that area. I'd maintain that righty vs. lefty is a much bigger issue than the 4% difference.

Harping on Beagle as being not good enough for his role is just stupid, though, unless you have a specific replacement in mind that is notably better in some way (speed or versatility or whatever) while still being able to do what Beagle does at a cheap price.

Would this be a bad time to ask what the value of Hendricks is...?

Don't know anything about college, sorry. I must have blocked those four years of my life from memory.

And yeah, those Nats fans have a long and painful reputation as the worst in sports. Notorious, they are.

Nah, String. It's a fine time to ask.

He's worth more to the Caps than he'd return in a trade. I don't see him moving for futures, because the Caps aren't taking a 6th round pick or something for a guy with a defined role on the team and nobody would pay the futures necessary for the Caps to forego his 'now' impact.

There's always the possibility that Oates doesn't like him, in which case his value is probably a bottom-sixer that Oates does like.

Skins and Nats fans when the team starts actually performing brag in every way. I'm not even a Giants/Eagles/Cowboys fan but it's so obnoxious.

"If RG3 wasn't hurt we would've won"

"This year is the Super Bowl year.... 16 weeks later 4-12"

Listen to 106.7 The Fan on a gameday that is actually relevant. If you did on Thursday they had a whole bunch of idiots on there. Even said "we're not feeling this game, it doesn't feel as BIG".

Well, I bet it does now.

You're not a Skins fan? How did I miss that? Please tell me it's the Ravens and not Dallas.

Yes, it is the Ravens. Didn't particularly follow NFL before the move. Actually paid more attention to the CFL when Baltimore had a team.

I despair when I see the load of non-Texas native Cowboys fans around here. They're right up there with the non-Californian Lakers fans and non-New Yorker Yankees fans in the battle for the throne of ******.

I'm relatively apathetic towards the Redskins.

wow ive never seen so much flaming over the 4th line.

Tom Wilson didnt even make team Canada this year, hes not making the NHL untill he develops his game more.

We have a new head coach in Oates no one knows how he likes to use his bench and the bottom line players. Some coaches dont even use a 4th line and just roll with 3 scoring lines and it wouldnt shock me if thats Oates style.

We should be talking about whats important to they caps returning to a top contender and thats fixing the PP which was awful last season.
PP 1 Ovechkin Backstrom blank
Green/Carlson blank
Do we use Ove on the point or on the halfboards
Do we put Mike Green back on PP1
Do we put backstrom and Ribs on the same line
all important questions for Oates

I'm going to guarantee you that Oates will use Ovechkin at the point on the powerplay.
