From an outside perspective, I'd do that.

...but why? Yes Kane is a pretty great player, but I don't think he fits. I also don't like giving up Coyle and a 1st for that with the potential Coyle has and what GMCF has been doing lately with their picks. I just don't see them building around Kane when they just got Parise and have a lot of young talent that are close to NHL ready.

Heatley was the Wild's best player last season. I'd hate to see him traded. He's one of the main reasons why Suter and Parise signed, and I think he's a good mentor for our prospects coming up.

It gets us younger so we don't have the problem of all of our stars retiring by the time our system is developed. We get 1.2 million in cap space, which doesn't seem like much but we only have 2M right now. We still keep Zucker who is pretty much Coyle lite.

Zucker and Coyle are nothing alike.

Also, this thread's about Dallas and Minnesota, not Chicago.

Fine, think whatever you want. We Wild fans KNOW that Heatley displayed leadership both on and off the ice. Not a ton of leadership, but enough to earn that A on his jersey last season. A partial A ironically, as I believe Cullen would wear the A at home and Heatley on the road or something like that.

I don't think Heatley has an attitude problem, and probably has some decent leadership qualities. Regardless, I'd still take him on the Stars.

When I brought this up in the Dallas forum, the main reason I targeted Heatley was I assumed you Wild fans wouldn't want to lose Clutterbuck. I missed the boat on that one.

Don't really want Heatley as much as looking to dump Robidas to make room for younger D.

Also, I forgot about Josh Harding's new condition. I know he's dealing with a serious illness, but I can't recall what at this moment.

With his $1.9 million coming off, your cap situation isn't nearly as difficult with $55 million in 15 players. I'm assuming Hackett ends up with a reasonable cap hit next year as one of the goalies so you probably have plenty of cap space without dumping Heatley if he is working out so well.

This string of comments is pretty interesting. Especially so when you consider everyone around the Wild and those who pay attention to them were thrilled to what Heatley brought to this team both on and off the ice; while Clutterbuck was a bit of a disappointment and didn't provide the game that we're used to seeing from him.

The perception of Heatley continues to be fun, though.

As for the proposal, there's not many realistic proposals that I would get on board with moving Heatley. This one included. Clutterbuck could absolutely be had in the right deal, however, this isn't it.

I wouldn't do this from Minnesota's end; I feel they can get a better d-man in exchange for Heatley

We have plenty of depth in the bottom-6, but not much yet in top-6. That being said, how about Cal Clutterbuck instead? He's an upcoming RFA and his cap hit shouldn't be as bad. He's still young, his offence is still trending upwards and he still hits as much as ever.

So, Clutterbuck+ for Robidas?
Clutterbuck to the Leafs for JM Liles?

I saw that in the other thread. If it was Liles and a late round pick I'd take it pretty quick.

I'd be more interested in Franson actually. And Clutter to the Leafs has been proposed even more than Backstrom to the Hawks so we've covered those trades pretty thoroughly.

He was actually quite decent on NHL last year. His biggest problem seems to be his discipline and trying too much. He seems to be a classic case of small name, big ego in terms of on-ice play. Gets frustrated easily.

That being said, when he plays to his role, he can be a serviceable 3rd-pairing D with a good shot and offensive presence, without being an absolute liability defensively.
