really? everytime someone from city ocuncil speaks they seem to want to cheap out on something. I'm actually worried if they finally do go ahead on this, it will end up bring your basic plain barn.

They've talked about cheaping out a lot, but I don't know how much they really cheaped out on.

guess we really won't know until they finally strike a deal.

I understand that people "in the know" keep reminding us that work is going on in regards to the area as we speak, but it would be nice to have a signed deal and know what we're getting.
other than how much of a rotten experience it is to go to an event at rexall, I still hate everytime they show that ugly place on television in the middle of a slum. "live from rexall place..."

Is Rexall in the middle of the slums/bad neighborhood?

The best look I've had at the surrounding area was on Google maps. Cannot wait until my first venture to Edmonton.

Meh, how many people actually know that the area around Rexall is in the middle of slum?

It's not exactly a place many will choose to visit on non-event nights.

it's not in a nice area of town, no.
some of the neighbourhoods east of gretzky drive are quite nice but west of rexall gets pretty scary.

My mother refers to the area as "dumpy town."

But I'm also pretty sure it's the only place I've ever seen a Heavy Metal Busker. I usually LRT out of the game, but wanted to get to the bar quick and went out one of the street entrances. And there was some dude out there playing Lamb of God on his electric guitar on the street corner.

He plays a drum set made out of buckets outside the LRT station. I mostly see him at Oil Kings games.

I went South from Rexall down Gretzky, ended up in a forest, ended up in a neighbourhood full of giant houses. I thought it was a nice area

Edmonton is pretty nice south of (and around) the river valley.

It is pretty ugly but it's not a "slum" at least not by definition. Far from over crowded, if anything that area is under crowded... a lot of empty space near Rexall.

I can't even think of any houses that are near Rexall... I guess the ones behind the Coliseum bus depot but that's on the other side of the tracks.
