Wow shocked by the Poti news but good for him. Hopefully he wont be completely out of game shape, sounds like hes been doing a lot of PT which has probably kept him in reasonable shape. Plus with only 1 year left on his contract not a bad situation at all for next years rapidly vanishing cap room

If poti does make the team can we afford him? If hes healthy it would be a nice boost for the D

Green Poti/Hamer
Alnzer/Carlson
Orlov/Poti/Hamer/Shultz
Poti back from the dead! Lolz. If true good for him. We'll see if the groin holds up. Short TC will be a groin tester for all the players.

How many days into camp before Mike Green has a groin issue?

The Caps could be awfully mediocre this season. Shrug. Here's hoping.

As for Poti, I thought he was already in a home.

I'd written off this season. It's going to take a while to get used to the idea. I expect I'll get the (presumably) half season, pro-rated pass to Center Ice. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

It'll be over two years between NHL games for Poti.

I wouldn't expect much, at all. I'm guessing he'll make Schultz look swift at this point.

With Poti's and Green's health issues over the last couple years there is no way they risk trading away any of their blueline depth and hoping those two stay reasonably healthy...

caps could be mediocre. holtby could have a sophmore slump and neuvirth not step up. carlson and alzner could prove to be maxxed out an not going to be elite. green could get hurt again. ov could prove to be a 0.75ppg playe from here out.

that equals a ho hum team.

on the other hand if one of the goalies is for real. if carlson and alzner are elites. if green and ov return to some form of their better selves, i think they could be a top team.

i'd say its hard to know

In a dream world where Poti is able to resume his 2010 playoff level play, I'd roll these pairings and be ecstatic about it:

Alzner - Green
Poti - Carlson
Hamrlik - Orlov*

*Schultz in interim, possibly Hillen depending on match-up.

In reality, we get a Poti who hasn't laced 'em up for a game since January 12th, 2011 and was a detriment to the team at that point. I don't expect much from him. In fact, it makes the roster situation that much more complicated. Dima can be stashed in Hershey until he's ready to return, but afterwards we'd have 9 defensemen on the roster, a majority of which nobody wants to see any higher than the third pairing.

Happy for Poti....

Couldn't care any less about the season, though I hope that changes.

Not overly excited about the coach, the star with his struggles, the 1C with injuries, or secondary wingers. But a lot of my feelings are distorted by my lack of caring.

After that surgery, I think he will be much better.... At not being injured.. not at actually playing well

why are their so many that cant accept that carlson and alzner are a pair and that splitting them up as part of a primary lineup contruction is probably never going to happen so long as they are on the same team?

He's basing those pairings on the chemistry Poti and Carlson showed against Montreal. Obviously it's a small sample, but it was the best Carlson's ever been without Alzner. As good as they are together, the main issue seems to be whether Carlson can maintain his play without Alzner, who generally does fine outside the pairing.

Ovechkin-Ribeiro-Brouwer
Laich-Backstrom-Johansson
Chimera-Beagle-Wolski?
Crabb-Purrutu-Hendricks

Alzner-Carlson
Hamrlik-Green
Schultz-Orlov
Poti
Erskine

Holtby
Neuvirth

That lineup is paper thin and with no Backstrom/Orlov to start, things could get ugly quick.

I will be the first to say we win the cup this year

We have a center to help out Nick. A more offensive coach, and a team with a better mind for defense. Ok think Ovi. And he may even be in shape and stay motivated in a short season. Semin the universal toxin for all that ailed us, is gone. Wideman, gone. If Poti is back and healthy (haha tex), Sarge may be on the bench.

LAKings players credited T Murray for teaching them D and they got a cup.

Missed a week or two of games in Moscow due to a neck bruise or something similar. Hasn't mentioned it when talking about coming back though.

if one of the goalies is for real -- extremely likely (Hotlby is going to be a star, Neuvy one of the best backups in the league).

carlson/alzner elites -- very likely (well more likely that they will prove to be blue-chip, very good though not quite all-star)

ov return to form -- very likely ( I think the half season off will do wonders for ov -- he's going to return fresh and enthusiastic about hockey again)

green return to form -- very unlikely (just my opinion, he has confidence issues, injury issues, I don't think he has the mental make-up to overcome these in the long run)

I don't know. Briere had the same surgery green did and said it would take about 8-9 months before he felt comfortable and back to where he was. I could see Green being confident in his groin and not suffering another injury.

I am hoping his game can pick up, doesnt need to be back to BB form, but offensive upside would be a plus
