He signed his NHL contract first.

Not really, it just means more responsabilities for Hamonic, Da Hawn and now possibly Reinhart too (knowing how fast the Isles rush their prospects). One thing's for sure, they would have one mean back-end with both Carkner and Komisarek..

Exactly. He should be playing in the NHL now.

No it doesn't. Hamonic, Streit, and MacDonald can't do it by themselves. Carkner and Donovan aren't good enough to play top-4 roles now. Also, deHaan is hurt.

And Carkner and Komisarek wouldn't be a "mean back-end", it would be a ****** one.

Highly, highly doubt it. The only reason I could see it happening is if Snow told Visnovsky he's going to toll his contract, and Visnovsky said he will play with the Islanders in 2013-14. Otherwise, what would be the point? He gave up a 2nd round pick for him.

Right, or that he'd come play in the NHL if the NYI traded him to a list of pre-approved teams. The point would be that it's better to get something for the 2nd rounder (maybe a 4th rounder) than nothing.

Cheers,

Dan-o

Cue all the trade proposals trying to unload their crap on us now.

You'd think we've seen everything so far, this is a new one. I guess we'll be inviting the Staios, Jurcina, and <insert over the hill d-man here> to training camp.

DeHaan is down for the year (maybe more) as he had his shoulder completely rebuilt after injuring it for the 3rd year in a row.

They are going to have to sign someone or trade for someone. They need another puck moving defenseman.

Right now it is Streit, Hamonic, MacDonald, Carkner, and Donovan. I don't see anyone else that is ready. This leaves a thinner defense on the team. And probably assures them a great shot at Seth Jones this draft. Going to be another ugly year on the Island unless a trade can be worked out.

Surely there must be some legal loophole that's stemming from the lockout.

If my employer locks me out, and I go get a new work, can my previous employer just take me back without further notice? I don't know, but makes sense if it's not that easy.
