was the goalie pullled without reason? was it after a period? or just in the middle of play? ie what was the game situation when he was pulled?
If anything happened it had to have happened prior to the game since Darcy Kuemper played a complete game shutout for the Aeros tonight. Matt Hackett (who would be in the running to backup Backstrom with Harding battling MS) did not play, but dressed as the backup to Kuemper tonight...
On the other hand, Marcus Granlund (who'd be playing for the Wild) was a late scratch for Houston tonight and was not scratched due to injury...
Eklund just reported that the Leafs have fired Burke....

Seems like Bob is working on confirming. Crazy timing. Lots of speculation that it has something to do with Lou. Mainly guessing that Burke doesn't want to give up the pieces, but the new ownership says to do what it takes.

This really feels like dejavu. He was fired from Vancouver for sticking to his guns (which can be a positive at times) and not improving the goaltending situation. I would assume Nonis would step in again. Sounds like the ownership group made this call. Wouldn't be surprised to see Luongo acquired shortly after.
Burke fired...woah. Lu will be a Leaf now, for sure. I assume part of the reason he was fired was for not being willing to pay the price for quality goaltending.

some posters on the Leafs board are speculating that its the opposite... that Burke wanted Lou and was gonna give up the farm for him and ownership and Nonis preferred continued slow building.... guess we will know which one is right if a Lu trade happens later this week...

Would be interesting if you're right. I bet Burke gets scooped up fast by somebody. Columbus?
I'm surprised that didn't happen a while ago. I think he did an ok job, acquiring Phaneuf was a great move and obviously the Kessel trade turned heads, but he was trying to speed up the rebuild a little too quickly. I mean trading two 1sts for Kessel would be an alright move if they had a capable starting goalie, but in the position they were in they probably would have been better off keeping the picks, or trading it for a goalie like Colorado did.

Not all Burke's fault, but it's crazy to think how bright of a future the Leafs could have. Undo a few deals and they are loaded. Kessel went to Boston for Seguin+Hamilton+Knight, as the picks turned out. Rask was dealt straight up for Raycroft. Even eliminate just those two, and all the sudden you have Seguin, Lupul, Kadri, Knight, Grabovski, Kulemin, etc. at forward, Gardiner, Phaneuf, Hamilton, and Reilly on D, and Rask in net with Reimer as his backup.

Lebraun says he was fired largely for his reluctance to trade for Lu. Roberto should be a Leaf soon, but the sound of things.

The Rogers/Bell merger has fueled alot of this. Apparently they didn't like Burke's overall operating "style". Very loyal, but also very stubborn. Which can be a positive and negative, but appears to be the latter.
