Staple's latest tweets make it seem like he will have no choice but to report to the Islanders.

I'd still rather have the pick.

Contract control over a young, hopeful NHL'er >>>>>>>> a shortened season from a malcontent (regardless of why said player is a malcontent.)

If it's truly proximity to family stirring up his issues, being 5,000 miles plus from Slovakia isn't going to help his hockey.

I'm pretty sure that's what this amounts to, if true. (I still find this difficult to believe... that there won't be some kind of retraction later on.)

Don't see how the KHL and NHL agreement will not stop this
I think he couldn't announce it without getting some kind of approvement from the Isles. Otherwise KHL won't permit him to play.

My money is that he's just going to retire and then make a comeback for Bratislava. While everyone is scrambling over the legal ramifications, he'll just finish out his season and try to help his team make the playoffs. He might as well finish the job and go all the way. Since he's emotionally compelled, nothing is going to stop him.

How about a PK Subban offersheet?

No matter how much flack the Isles get, we're not the Oilers and Kevin Lowe pulling a d-bag move like offersheeting someone. No thanks, they are more bad than good.

At this point, let him alone. If I am Snowy, I just go ahead and look for another d-man. The part of this that really blows is that we lost a high pick for him.

Streit, Carkner, MacDonald and Hamonic are the guys we go in with right now. We clearly need another player assuming from this point forward Viz is gone.

Is there a vet who may be able to play a half a season who was left un-signed as a stop gap. Lets face it, we aren't dealing for Subban...

I am not terribly enamored with the idea of going with playing both Donovan and Ness. Having another vet would really help... obviously.

If it wasn't us getting screwed over yet again, I'd say this was karma for the Ducks losing Schultz for nothing, but then, we lost Kessel, Gregoire and possibly/probably Lee.

At this point, how much worse could our karma get?

It can definitely get worse and I'd rather avoid asking for more which is exactly what would happen by offersheeting someone like Subban. It's a low class move and not devoid of ramifications.

I wouldn't doubt that happening anyway. Either way, the Subban thing was meant more as a joke. PW seems a bit heated though so I understand why he thought I was serious. Either way, I don't blame him. At this point of my Islander life, this kind of thing doesn't sting as much. A playoff appearance actually would have been more surprising.

Taker easy bud, I was kidding. Even if I was serious I know there is a 0% chance of it happening. A) team's don't offer sheet RFA's anymore(except Philly, apparently) and B) the Isles don't even sign regular UFAs... the chances of going after an RFA are as likely as Visnovsky wearing an Isles sweater.

By the way, thought I would look to see how our lost picks are doing. Kessel just got called up to the AHL after spending most of his year as a 23 year old in the ECHL, while Gregoire's biding his time as a AHL winger with 8 points in 28 games. So far, we haven't missed out on much.

I hear ya. Do yourself a favor and don't browse around the main boards. Apparently it's "let's all laugh at the Isles" day.

We cant anyway, we lack a 2nd round pick, unless we give him enough for 4 1st round picks. All the rest of the compensations offer a 2nd and it has to be our own.

I love how Vis thanks the Isles for being so good to him. Like how, exactly? Is he thanking them in advance for graciously acquiescing to his selfish desires that are diametrically opposed to the Isles' interests? The whole world is turning into some kind of crazy Kafka story where people say nonsensical things and we're all supposed to nod in agreement like they're saying something that makes sense.

I'm interested to see how this plays out.

Either way, the Islanders will lose out, because they will either get a disinterested viz or no viz and they lose a 2nd rounder in the process.

Me thinks Snow might try to trade for another dman if viz ultimately does not report.
