Almost completed my defense, I think it will be my best one yet:
Chara-Karlsson
Phaneuf-Burns(A)
Bouwmeester-Myers

I know I've seen it on this thread before but I can't find it now. What do you do when you stop receiving pucks after playing games?

Thanks (I'm on xbox if that matters)

Thinking about going with a Bourque - Vermette - Pavelski 4th line. As it stands, here's my team right now with the players in bold being the ones I still need to get. Should have at least 300k after tomorrow to complete my team as my firesale will be complete.

Parise - Giroux C - Kovalchuk
Gagne - Duchene - Kessel
St. Louis - Kesler - Carter A

Phaneuf - Letang
Suter A - Green
Kronwall - Pietrangelo

SOTW Lindback (Sim-Liga version boosted up to 94 overall for 10 games)
If you can't find a decent Letang, I would highly suggest Myers. Decent skating, heck of a shot and he absolutely crushes players with his checking. Should be able to find an UT Myers after the massive torrent of deal packs lately.

Also, I'm adding another gripe to my list of annoyances with EA. Ryan McDonagh gets a 3rd Star in the EA simulation last week and EA doesn't release a Team of the Week for last week. Very mad because I'd love to pair a SOTW McDonagh with Myers on my top pairing. He better get Team of the Week soon.

So, I've decided to try and get all the common cards in HUT.

This involves grinding a lot of pucks because I won't be selling any card other than duplicates. Doing it for a while, I built myself a decent collection: 350 player cards more or less. So I find myself with the following lineup:

FAME MONSTERS UNITED

Daniel Sedin (88) - David Legwand (85) - Shane Doan (84)
David Booth (86) - Dave Bolland (85) - Michael Grabner (84)
Scott Hartnell (85) - Ryan O'Reilly (84) - Brian Gionta (84)
Joffrey Lupul (85) - Jiri Hudler (83) - Devin Setoguchi (84)

Lubomir Visnovsky (85) - James Wisniewski (85)
Michael Del Zotto (85) - Zbynek Michalek (84)
Fedor Tyutin (84) - Jason Demers (83)

Tim Thomas (88) - Craig Anderson (85)

...decent enough crew. FMU can take anyone, especially offline. But then I realized: Having only one crew means I spent a lot on packs to get contracts. A common 6 games contract gets burned in a tournament and a half.

And I had a lot of good players that were going unused, and they had nice contracts to burn.

So I figure, I'll do myself more lineups.

EIGHT lineups. And no player gets used in more than one.

I change rosters every game, cycling through them in order. Doing this, it takes 12 tournaments to burn one 6 games contract. In theory, I could make 75K +/- before having to spend a contract, much less having to spend pucks to buy packs to get some.

Which won't happen for a while, because I've got 60 contracts in my pile.

Yes I saw an UT Myers for 35k BIN last night and nearly bought him but decided to get Giroux first.

Anywhere from 1 hour to 3 hours left on my firesale folks. Bidding up into the 70s for SOTW Backstrom, SOTW Pavelski and SOTW Cammalleri. Bidding only at 30k for SOTW Tanguay right now and pretty low on every other card too.

Even though it says it's going to create those into SOTWs, they don't actually guarantee that. Both Sedins have held a star, Ovi has twice... Sometimes, they enjoy ignoring.

I've got myself a Lemiux at last and I gotta say he's great.

So my line-up looks like this now:

SOTW Backstrom(A-90)-Lemieux(94)-SOTW Jagr(88)
Kane(84)-Koivu(A-87)-SOTW Radulov(85)
Neal(85)-Getzlaf(87)-Hemsky(83)
Landeskog(85)-Filppula(84)-SOTW Setoguchi(87)

SOTW Goligoski(86)-Myers(86)
McDonagh(85)-Burns(86)
Del Zotto(85)-Shattenkirk(85)

Harding(84)
Luongo(89)

Harding has been a beast lately so I'm playing him instead of Luongo who's been slumping. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the team, though I'm looking to replace McD and Del Zotto with some SOTW defenders. I'd try Gardiner but they're suprisingly pricey right now

Yes, there seems to be a very common pattern with this development team.

Quick noob question: The Training Cards for Positioning...are they actually useful? Because you can just play an LW as C or whatever without the card...or does it improve the player?

EDIT: And another question - if a player is injured, does the injury heal off or do you have to spend Injury cards on him?

Do you guys experience crazy streaks in this game? It's f&%%ng frustrating when first you win 10 games in a row, scoring goals with minimal effort, and the next thing you know, you got a 6 game losing streak going on, with no bounces coming your way and scoring a goal is impossible. This is me today. And this is not the first time this is not happening to me, this is just the most glaring example. I mean cmon, I went 10-0-0 and then six next 0-5-1. And I checked that the the games I won were against better opponents too. It's ridiculous and sometimes makes me want to break my copy.

EDIT: I OFFICIALLY ****ING HATE THIS GAME what the ****

You don't have to use the Position Switch cards but they help with Chemistry which helps your players perform better. And it looks nicer/neater. For example I have my Forwards on my team change team'ed to the Oilers and Defence and Goaltenders changed to the Senators and all the Left Side players as LW'ers, Center players as Centers and the rest to make the chemistry be the best as possible. I have about 97 Chemistry or so. It is a bit pricy on some for the position cards but I like to do it but you wont totally suck with out them.

Yes, you have to spend pucks on the Injury Cards to get the injury off if you want to play with them that is. It isn't that bad as most are cheap. Getting the "Any Injury" consumable is the easiest but most can be bought for $150 and lower.

Hope this helped!

Yup. All the time. My confidence is shot to which makes me perform sh*tty when I get on a loosing streak. I usually always have an unlucky goal go in on me or them poking it in on the Goaltender which is a load oh bullcrap....

In my last game I ran to red hot Thomas, I seriously couldn't get anything past him and I brought my A game... and I lost 0-4 while outshooting and outpossessing my opponent. Couple of softies let in by temporary SOTW Crawford (my #2 until I can figure out what the hell to do with my goalies), some nice breaking sticks in crucial moments... It's just ridiculous, I bet a newbie to this game would beat me right now.

I can't believe it's just a mental thing, I'm playing just fine but end up losing anyway. Like this one game where there's only a minute left of play, and opponent scores this worst garbage goal by pushing my goalie and thus the puck goes sliding under his bads to my goal... talk about goalie interference.. of course he goes to win me in overtime.

Seriously I should just go sell this game it's frustrating me with **** like this more often than any game should.

It's how long your training cards will last on that particular player. For example, if you add a +5SHT, +5SKT, and +5DEF to a player, and then added a 10 duration, those training will last for 10 games.

So how much are players that are higher than their normal rating worth? The same as their original untouched price?

pretty much. in my experience they are actually a little harder to sell unless someone doesnt know the duration thing and thinks theyre getting a 95 overall player for 50k

You'd probably be better off selling the player, the training cards, and the duration card separately. More times than not, you will make more money, unless you fool someone into thinking those training cards are permanent.

I'm in the same boat. I will rarely split a set of two games. I tend to win four, then lose three, win five, lose six, etc.

I've played about 500 games of HUT and I've been about 12-19 games over .500 since mid-October. Basically, I've been exactly .500 for the last three months.

I guess that means EA's match-up system works well, but the streaky nature of the game is frustrating. I'm on a three game win streak today, though, so I hate EA just a little less today than yesterday!
