Have they finished the transfer agreement between the CHL and AHL yet?

I know they had to wait for the NHL CBA to be finalized.

If it's not finished, Maatta could play in the AHL

Better chance of him going back to Finland to play.

So is he going to be the #1 there next year? I'm sort of more concerned about that.

I imagine Flyers management had some say in his decision.

They may have had some say, but it's not like they needed to fast track his development. However, Canada is better if you need to develop. There aren't enough games, and for goalies not always enough ice time in college.

I'm wondering how this changes his rights, because I'm not sure of the rule when someone jumps ship and heads to the CHL. I saw him like a Cory Schneider where he can just be left alone for 5 or 6 years.

I'm sure they weren't too happy about him only playing in 8 games. This was my main concern when I found out he was playing college hockey this season.

The Flyers will have to sign him to an ELC after next season to retain his rights. They can send him back as an overager if he isn't ready for pro hockey. And in the most extreme case, he can sign an ELC at the end of this year and play in the AHL next year since he wasn't drafted out of the CHL.

The Flyers organization are close with London, as Comcast manages the rink. The Flyers also helped Pat Maroon to the Knights after the draft.

One of the concerns is that he was so raw, and being a backup goaltender in college having been a 2nd round pick wasn't prudent for anyone, so I'm anticipating him staying in the OHL as an overager depending on what the goaltending situation is. Would like to see him get in contention to play at the WJC's too.

He got invited to the evaluation camp in the summer which is a good sign. Gillies will be on the team next year with two more open spots.

I know he wasnt getting many reps at Nebraska-Omaha but John Faulkner is a senior this year and Stolarz likely could of challenged for the #1 next season. Ed Belfour's kid is the other goalie down there. Wierd decision to do this now.
Oh well, hopefully it works out for him.
Cant imagine that sat well with Dean Blais

not really when you think about it. He just finished his fall semester exams. Probably didn't do too well...

Gus had a set back with his injury and probably won't be available for training camp.

Do not look for young defenseman Erik Gustafsson to immediate compete for a spot on the Flyers' starting blueline. The player, who has an injury variously described as either a high ankle issue and/or a foot bone bruise, suffered a setback late last week after returning to practice for two days.

According to a report in the Saratogian, Gustafsson is now back to walking on crutches. He was scheduled to be examined this week by Flyers team doctors.

''@tpanotchCSN 1st round pick Scott Laughton has a nameplate here for camp. Holmgren did not say he was coming MON''

Wonder how high his chances are of making the team. Don't really get to see him play as I dont follow junior hockey. Anyone here watch him on a regular basis? He has 32 points in 30 games this season for Oshawa.

Lol. I am happy for the kid. He will see more action and this will only speed up his development. The kid wants to be a pro and this to me is a very positive move and one the Flyers brass have to be very happy with in his decision to go to London. You really have to love the OHL with all the Flyer prospects playing in the league. CharlieGirl good luck to your rangers.

Really like this kids game and hope that one day he will be wearing the Orange and Black!

I do not see him making the team this year but the brass really like him and his future with the team.

If he can't win the job at UNO, what makes people think he will do better in London? I am guessing he just didn't like going to class.

They play a lot more games in the OHL. London is also poised to make another deep run in the playoffs. London had 2 goalies that played 20 games a piece this season. They just released one of their goalies, so at worst he's playing every other game. At UNO he played every 3rd game. I'd say for his hockey future and development, this was the best decision.
