Not sure I'm a fan of trading cap space at all but I can see how it got in. The bigger markets can absorb contracts and only take on partial cap hits and salary hits. Floor teams can get to the floor a little easier now too, although they would be paying for it versus a buyout. But deadline deals for players with remaining contracts should become more prevalent now.

Easy to see how everyone would want this.

I'm not that worried about facing our division. It's always a war. I'm more concerned about the short season and the lower margin of error that causes.

I'm more worried about those typical games against the bottom feeder teams. We had them a few times last year, and quite a few of those Saturday or Sunday matinee games. Like a game where we fall asleep against Toronto, or Tampa Bay, and fall asleep, and lose 4-3 despite scoring 3 goals. We had a few duds like this last season. The ones against the backup goalies no one has ever heard of before who shut us out, or come damn near close are the most frustrating.

After those games happen we meet a division team in a tough hard fought game, but still wind up falling short.

Boulton? Do we pick him up off waivers from the Isles after they figure out how awful he is!?

More likely Pesonen would be called up in that situation.

Butler on the top line? Woof.

Realistically though, you could remove two top-6 players from most teams in the league and get a pretty "woof" response.

I want Butler on the top line with Kovy and Zajac. He will need to be carried a bit so we can actually have some depth. I want him to shoot every time he gets the puck.

Butler could be a second line player. Though who knows if Palmieri could do so well with Kovy, I bet Butler could.

I really wanna see Josefson centering Patty when Henrique comes back. That would be the go to shutdown line like the geezers last year, and could bring a lot of offense.

That is a good question though. Who is the shutdown default shutdown line?

Sounds like it could be interesting.

Went to the Albany game last night and Pesonen seemed a bit slow. Butler played on a line with Spezza so it's very conceivable that he would be the first line RW with Kovy and Zajac. He also played on the PP and on the point on the PP or that matter.

Would like Sykora resigned, especially with the shortened season and this would allow two of our lines to remain the same as last year.

Kovy-Zajac-Butler
Zubrus-Elias-Sykora
Tedenby-Josefson-Clarkson (until Henrique comes back)
Gionta-Carter-Bernier

Barch, Harrold

The past few seasons, it's been whatever line Elias and Zubrus are on. Elias -Josefson - Zubrus could be a pretty excellent line to take D-zone draws.

With Pesonen, there's been questions of consistency. I don't want to say "laziness," since he's playing his first professional season halfway around the world with players he's just beginning to get to know, but there are games where he's positively flying and then games like you describe where he seems sluggish.

Zharkov would be a good shutdown line option on rw...

Saw that Colin White was an UFA - I could see the Rangers sign him for 1 year an $1 million - they could use a #5-#6 defensive dman to play with Stralman as I don't think Emminger is coming back and Sauer is out with concussion. This would not make me happy at all.....

Pretty sure that line line was one of the best, if not the best shutdown line in the league last year. Weren't there possession numbers absurd or something?

Pretty sure Colin White has been reduced to nothing but a cone at this point in his career.

It wouldn't bother me at all. When you're in the position Whitey is in you take whatever you can get from any team. It's not like he's Gomez, or Holik, or Parise (Who didn't go there anyway) or even Martin who didn't go there either. Though I mean guys who there is a market for.

I held no bad feelings at all when Maclean, and Driver went to the Rangers. If anything White wants to stay near his family the same way those guys did, and they still live in Jersey. Going to the Rangers won't be going far like San Jose was.

And although it's sad to see this it has become a reality. And because of that, I would have no problems with him going to the Rangers. It's because of that reasons it wouldn't bother me, and a guy like him takes what he can get at this point in his career. I don't even think the Rangers would take him though, but that's not the point. Perhaps the Isles would take a stab. They love to recycle our guys.

i don't understand the luongo rule. does that mean that any player who retires before their contract is up still counts towards the cap if their salary was less than their cap hit?

If they signed a contract longer than 6 years.

So that would hurt us if Kovy retires early, no?
