I would not. Braydon is a very good all around player which this team needs. This team can score so that is not the issue here. Am I one of the few fans who wants to see what Gustafsson,Bourdon and Manning can bring to the table before we bust up our lineup for PK? Heck, we even have a 19 year old who looks like he could be a very good point producer in Gostisbehere. Here is a list of players I like over PK and would not mind having in our lineup. Yes some have holes in their game but no one is perfect.
Karl Alzner
Brent Burns
John Carlson Cam Fowler
Erik Gudbranson Victor Hedman Erik Johnson
Jack Johnson
O. Ekman Larsson Adam Larsson
Tyler Meyers
Alex Pietrangelo
Brent Seabrook Luca Sibisa
Shea Weber What a shame huh?
I am not saying these guys are all number ones just players I would like to see in Orange and Black over PK. Be my guest to flame away but that is my opinion.
Personal choice is fine. There are a few guys on there who are not as good as Subban, though. Of course, the main issue is that you would not be able to get almost ANY of them for Couturier in a 1-for-1 deal.
The guys in bold are not in Subban's class, yet. The rest are comparable or better. Some of the guys in bold could possibly be had for Couturier in a straight up swap, but unlikely. The guys not in bold would require Couturier ++. Try posting any of those trades on the main board and see how they go.
Finally, Couturier was never offered 1-for-1 for Weber and refused. Homer refused to INCLUDE Couturier in a large package for Weber. Although, to be honest, based on what Homer has done over the last couple of years, I guess it IS possible he refused to trade Couturier for Weber straight up.
I'd like to have him but probably not for what he'd cost. If we could get him for Laughton and a first I'd do it but that isn't enough, they'd probably want one of Schenn or Couturier and I don't think that would be unreasonable trade value wise though they would have to throw in a pick or two on there side.
gonna have to pass on that one. with all the money we spend on the scouting department, why dont we tap into another team, that hits homeruns on D men, like we do with forwards. teams like nashville. our lack of success with drafting d-men, should not continue. if it does we will never win another cup. sad but true.
Any recent indications that PK would be available or even being shopped to the Flyers?
I think the rumored Subban discussions were shot down before the JVR for Luke Schenn thing got finalized... or did I miss something?
Marc Bergevin just said on 98.5 (Montreal radio) that he want to absolutely keep PK Subban in Montreal. He just dosen't sound like he is preparing a trade.
Old numbers from the summer Should be something like 10% less for each :
Here are the numbers:
$1,110,249 or below - No Compensation
Over $1,110,249 to $1,682,194 - 3rd round pick
Over $1,682,194 to $3,364,391 - 2nd round pick
Over $3,364,391 to $5,046,585 - 1st round pick, 3rd
Over $5,046,585 to $6,728,781 - 1st round pick, 2nd, 3rd
Over $6,728,781 To $8,410,976 - Two 1st Round Picks, 2nd, 3rd
Over $8,410,976 - Four 1st Round Picks
We have all of our picks to do all of them.
5,046,585 to 6.7m is a first, 2nd, and 3rd.
10% less puts that in the 4.5m to 6m range. I'd consider that
I would do it because I don't see us being able to find someone better without dismantling part of our young core. Saw it with Weber in the Summer. There aren't many, if any, number one defenders or potential number one defenders that teams are willing to part with.

And there likely isn't going to be.
Florida will match 6~m. If we give him 6per...thats 36 over 6 years max (thats the limit now?). There is no way they won't match.
Subban might be a better target because MTL is up against the cap hard I believe, not that I want him.
But as I said in some other threads, the key to the new NHL will be keeping your own picks and drafting well.

I don't really want him either, but don't forget that Montreal could easily just buy out one of their high priced players who are underperforming to fit him in.
Edit: We took our big swing with Weber and missed. I have no idea where to go from there as far as defenders

you cannot use your compliance buyout until the summer thought, correct? or can you use it at any time after the CBA is put into effect?
The 36m over 6 years would put the compensation in 2 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd using old figures.
If it scales back like the cap did, that would put the 4 1sts compensation at 6.74m.
Yea, i was just ballparking a number to show that it doesn't matter, FLA matches.
Unless we step up with a rediculous 6 year 9m per deal...which I don't want to do, we are not getting Kulikov as a RFA.
I doubt you are going to see majorly frontloaded deals anymore, since this has sort of been removed from the system. You can't stretch out the years to lower the cap hit. The tricks are gone.

Or trade someone or whatever, but they might have to sweat. FLA can just sign the check.
you are right about weber, we offered one of the most toxic contracts ever in pro sports, and it was matched.
You can apparently use the 2 of them any time from this summer until next summer
that's what i thought.
so then, hypothetically, if we were to offer sheet Subban to the point where it would be impossible cap wise for them to match, they could not simply buy out a bigger contract, correct? because you cannot use them until the summer, or am i misunderstanding?
(im not saying they wouldn't just trade someone, or find a way to keep him, but for the sake of clearing this up, think of it hypothetically)

Yeah, you're correct about it. But it looks like they have almost 10m for this year to sign just Subban. Next year would be where they run into problems.
As for the Kulikov situation, They have about 16m to sign just Kulikov this year.
But next year they have 22m to sign : Weiss, Mueller, Santorelli, Matthias, Skille, Smithson, Wellman, plus Ellerby. That number is reduced even more with Kulikov's money. It gets pretty tight for them for the most part
