Vandermeer would provide us with some toughness we badly need, he's also a good team guy.

Good skating? He's a pylon... Probably comparable to Alberts in that regard.

Gene Principe ‏@GenePrincipe Ralph Kreuger saying he's been told no exhibition games and all teams playing for points right away.

Hmm, how will that effect the Canucks?

Anyone been following the Wolves that can provide insight as to why, compared to the rest of the team, Connauton's +/- is so horrible? I am nervous with Alberts as our 7. He gives me night terrors. But, Connauton doesn't seem to be an improvement. I don't think Barker will be. Help?

It'll effect most teams as well. It's not like the whole roster of Chicago, LA, etc, etc all played during the lockout. Sure guys like Kane, Thornton and others player, but last time I checked, it takes a team to win hockey games regularly. I don't think Kane playing overseas is going to get Toews, Hossa etc into game shape/midseason form. I don't really buy this whole rust factor, when every other team will have it as well. Would be a lot different if a whole team was playing during the lockout.

Makes me want him on the Canucks bad. He is a good number 7, can play when we need toughness as a winger, he'd be cheap, and at least we'd be a little more physical because our team is soft.

Oilers fan here. You know how bad our team has been since 06? I have not seen a worse defenseman than Barker. I seriously have no idea how he got drafted 3rd after Malkin and Ovechkin. The only thing he can do is make a good pass. He's slow, terrible defensive awareness, gets walked pretty much every shift, etc.
There were times last season when I was begging for Barker to be scratched in place of guys like Peckham and Potter. Seriously. I have no idea why the Canucks would want him. Maybe he's improved, but what I've seen of him, you'd much rather take a chance with any other defenseman who is a free agent or on waivers.

Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh on him. But I've never seen a worse defenseman at the NHL level.

STill makes me want to hurl knowing we gave up Sulzer for MAG.
I liked Sulzer.

Sulzer > Alberts. It was definitely a misstep from management.

You know NHL is back in VAN when a dude who may be on a PTO for the 8th D-spot gets so much twitter attention. Lockout schmockout.

I liked Sulzer too. Another AV casualty, albeit a small one.

Yeah I would like to see Arnott he would make a good third center. Sign him 1 year 1.3 million.

I seriously hope it wasn't one of our pro scouts who recommended giving him a look at camp... even for a warm body you'd still have better options.

who should get the number 8th spot. i don't think kevin c is gonna make the team, needs more seasoning in chicago.plus would you rather have k.c and alberts rotate on most nights in the pressbox or have k.c playing 20+mins in chicago.? he'll get the occasional recall in case an injury happens

Defensemen I would have invited to camp over Barker:
Brett Clark
Mark Eaton
Chris Campoli (yes, I went there)
Kent Huskins
Jim Vandermeer
Colin White

a.k.a. anyone else

With flow like that, how can't you go 3rd overall?

But in all seriousness, Barker is horrid, no way he makes the team or even gets a contract for that matter.

I disagree, Alberts is probably better, Sulzer was great in a very minimal role but Alberts has proven he is as solid #7.

As for Barker I think he is better than alot think, perhaps not but I am curious, I think he could be a solid #8, I would take him over Joslin, Joslin has been brutal.

Clark wouldn't have been bad though.
