I disagree, Alberts is probably better, Sulzer was great in a very minimal role but Alberts has proven he is as solid #7.
As for Barker I think he is better than alot think, perhaps not but I am curious, I think he could be a solid #8, I would take him over Joslin, Joslin has been brutal.
Clark wouldn't have been bad though.
Sulzer played a top 4 role on the Sabres and flourished there.
Is Dale Weise the Wayne Gretzky of hockey in the Netherlands or something? Never seen/heard of anything like this for a 3 month stint.
Yep, he pretty much was Gretzky over there. 48 points in 19 games, and his team only gave up 43 goals in those 19 games. He was on a 202 point pace over 80 games.

Gene Principe @GenePrincipe Ralph Kreuger saying he's been told no exhibition games and all teams playing for points right away.
Hmm, how will that effect the Canucks?
This seems like a positive, given that AV usually wastes the pre-season anyway. Now every team will have the same lackluster, unprepared start to the season...

Nothing but good news in my opinion ... as a seasons ticket holder those 5 preseason games are nothing but a rip off.
Yup just found it. Doubt he'll make the team. Waste of a spot, IMO.
Agreed. I can't see him pushing Andrew Alberts for the 7th slot, much less anyone else.
Wonder if there's anyone else we'll invite? Vandermeer and Pelley come to mind as guys who skated with the team a lot in the off-season, and Dan Ellis was practically begging publicly to get signed.
Oilers fan here. You know how bad our team has been since 06? I have not seen a worse defenseman than Barker. I seriously have no idea how he got drafted 3rd after Malkin and Ovechkin. The only thing he can do is make a good pass. He's slow, terrible defensive awareness, gets walked pretty much every shift, etc.
There were times last season when I was begging for Barker to be scratched in place of guys like Peckham and Potter. Seriously. I have no idea why the Canucks would want him. Maybe he's improved, but what I've seen of him, you'd much rather take a chance with any other defenseman who is a free agent or on waivers.
Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh on him. But I've never seen a worse defenseman at the NHL level.
I wonder if the Canucks hired EA's North American scout who opted to make Barker a Top 4 dman worth over $4M/year
I'd probably take a younger Nolan Baumgartner over him.
Hmm, that article was kind of a let down. I was hoping for something more informative, not just "he sucks because he sucks". Either way, nbd, he's just a warm body for camp. If our guys can't beat out Cam Barker then it's ok to panic.
According to news1130 the canucks are still interested in arnott, his agent feels he's a good fit in van and will sign somewhere by the end of the week.
Also according to news1130 the canucks are interested in Tom kostopolous.
Personally I like both abd kostopolous could be a great addition for the bottom 6.

Like Kostopolous and Arnott if cheap.
Don't know how they would both fit ... but would be useful.
Arnott yes ... Kostopoulos, only if he punches out Bieksa again KB3 didn't try to fight for a while after that. Amazing how much better he plays when he doesn't act like a big shot tough guy.
Seriously, though, pass on Kostopoulos and Barker.
^Ehhh...Kostopolous on a minimum-wage deal might make a good 13th forward, actually. I wouldn't be upset.
I definitely don't think it's a good idea to throw an actual contract at Barker, and probably not Arnott at this point. Tryouts are fine and dandy, but anything more than that...

Don't all 1 way deals count against the cap now? Even if they are in the AHL? If that's the case I would hope we're very careful about who we sign. Not really interested in any of those guys, but I'd give Arnott a tryout to see what's left in the tank.

Depends on what Barker gets. If it's one year and 1m, I'd be very interested. Perhaps they take him on as a project they think they can develop further?
Arnott is an option if they don't want to do the Lu deal right away.

Like that they are looking at Kostopolous.
Ugh...Barker is terrible, he can't even maintain a job at the AHL level, I wouldn't even give him the league minimum. If he hasn't developed SOMETHING by now he's not going to. Think Ryan Parent, only worse.
Bob Mckenzie did a write up on TSN about the Canucks this season. I have to say...I disagree with him on almost every single point he made. can't remember the last time I did that.
