I've heard stories that there are other teams that could make trades with the Sharks than Wild, but I don't believe that. Now go snatch Cullen and send us Douglas.
I'd take that. Basically gives us a third line of Frolik-Kruger-Wingels. That's a HUGE improvement on what we have now, and Stalberg is only a slight downgrade on Clowe for a very nice cap hit, plus we have his little brother Sebastian in the system so maybe he'll re-sign easily, for the chance to play with his brother in the future.
I'd love to have Pavelski play #3C. However, there are several reasons why he was "promoted" to #1RW last season.
1. He's a first line caliber player. You don't put players like that on the third line with a ****** supporting cast and expect him to do well.
2. He'd have a ****** supporting cast. Wellwood and Mitchell weren't cutting it last time around, and we have even worse depth this time.
3. I got the feeling that Pavelski was unhappy with his role as #3C and might have requested a trade if it'd been kept up. I don't want to risk him walking in UFA in 2014 because he's unhappy with his role.
4. Pavelski is the type of player you want on the ice as much as possible, not playing third line minutes.
If we could pull the trigger on a Stalberg/Frolik/Kruger for Clowe deal and then a MacArthur for Murray deal, we could have:
A rested Handzus for 1/2 season should be more then enough good for 3rd line center duty.
He might not be a 40+Pts/20G player anymore but he's still a terrific defensive player that can do PK, will win you faceoffs, decent in shootouts and can provide a front net presence on the PP...
Seriously? That's probably the best offer I've seen for Clowe. You'd do all that for a pending UFA (not that I don't think Clowe would re-sign in Chicago)?
I'd do that trade easily since it'd solve pretty much all of the Sharks problems in one trade while getting some youth back on top of that. Sure Clowe would leave a hole in our top-6 that won't easily be filled, but I think the depth would do the team better.
That was basically my thoughts on a potential lineup, give or take Murray to either shore up our 3rd line by trade or for the second pair when injuries inevitably occur. My only concern is the potential cap hits and where the team would stand after this season.

He's not a terrific defensive player, he's balls on the PK, we have a set group of shootout players all better than Handzus, and he's never used on the PP as a net-front presence.
I don't want to see him on this team.

Man I even forgot about Frolik. Stick him in either of Wingels' or Galiardi's spot and that's a really solid looking team.

Handzus is dead weight on the team. That's about it.
There is no way Steckel fits that description in the OP. Just no way.
We Devils fans have been discussing the possibility of signing Moore as the stopgap until Henrique comes back from injury. I thought he at least bore semblance to the description in the OP, but obviously he doesn't, otherwise the Sharks wouldn't be searching for a new 3C.
Can Sharks fans shed light on how he played for them last season?

Moore's wife was diagnosed with cancer late last season, so he wasn't himself. He might not even play this season, but if he decides to (hopefully his wife's treatment is going well), I think the Sharks would re-sign him. Not to mention the Bay Area has some of the best hospitals in the country.
How about Lars Eller and a third rounder in 2013 for Ryane Clowe and your first rounder in 2013? Eller while struggling at faceoffs is young and promising. Plus he is signed to a cap-hit friendly contract and will be only a rfa after the 13/14 season. Clowe will be an UFA after next season. If he signs an extension with Montreal you'll also receive a second round pick in 2014.

Wow, I had no idea about his wife. That's terrible. Best wishes to him and his family.

Bad deal for us. You are not getting Clowe AND our 1st for Lars Eller.
Lars Eller is much younger and still has some untapped potential.
Ryan Clower is 30 and has 6 months left on his contrat. The first will also likely be in the 20-25 range.
Just saying.
It's not that I have a problem with Eller. I have a problem with giving up our 1st. You can't say it will likely be in the 25-30 range. It's a shortened season so if we have any big injuries or if something else goes wrong we will be a lottery team.

For the chicago deal, I would even throw in a conditional pick based on Clowe resigning. I would hope we could resign Stalberg at a reasonable price with his brother in the system but that might not be possible after a year of playing with the Joes. If Frolik struggles and we need cap space next year we could always use the buy out on him.
The Toronto deal is a no-brainer as long as our injured defense-men heal up.
