You can't have all the teams playing if we're not playing out-of-conference. So two fanbases will have to sit in agony and wait. Unless they split it evenly.

Of course everyone can play if there are some out-of-conference games.

Pretty sure there won't be any inter-conference games...but I guess we'll know for sure in the next day or two.

I wouldn't think he can, as he has a current NHL contract.

The KHL has to honor with their agreement with the NHL about honoring existing contracts.

Just want to add--when the lockout began, I predicted that Fehr would do a great job for the players. I think he did just that. The players should be very happy with the deal he negotiated.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

NHL player now back from RUS says KHL teams putting major pressure and huge money on table to keep NHLers from returning to North America.

What does this mean regarding the agreement between the KHL and NHL. Zero trust?

Agreed. Considering the changed landscape in other sports, his fallback position to 50/50 on HHR was inevitable and expected. Everywhere else he held the line, fought the good fight, and in the end, got a deal where the players will thrive.

His old time labor mentality, so badly needed elsewhere today, made me proud. He did a great job and the PA, the NHL, and the game itself will be better for what he accomplished and be evident when everyone can step back and take a realistic view of things.

He kept his guys together, the essence of solidarity, the heart of any union.

And now back to arguing about Brian Boyle and all that other good stuff!

Agreed on all of that. When it's clear that the pie is going to be shrinking, the pro sports union's job is to maximize job security, financial security and freedom of movement. The fact that they lost unlimited contract length isn't so much a failure on the union's side as an admission that this was an oversight in the first place. Following industry trends and all that. Fehr did a good job and hopefully righted some of the power imbalance between the league and the union for next time.

Kovalchuck will play today in Kazan. Some sources close to SKA say he could stay in Russia #Devils
Genadi Boguslavski (twitter) @GenadiB (Retweeted by TSNBobMcKenzie)

And I think the new CBA says that no matter where they play if the salary is over a certain amount it counts against the cap. That will ruin the Devils if he does not come back.

I've heard Kovalchuk rumors (staying in RUS?) but not able to confirm. NJD told me they "haven't heard (Kovy) isn't coming back."

Yikes. I dislike the Devils as much as the next guy but noone wants that. That could destroy the franchise.

Give it another two days. The CBA isn't ratified. Camps haven't officially opened. He is getting another game in with his KHL team. The KHL media loves to create stories. I think Kovy will be back.

It would be interesting to say the least, but these rumors are from a good source.

Quote:
So gist of all that is Kovalchuk stuff is just rumors right now. May very well turn up in NJ but many hearing he might not.
Bob McKenzie (Twitter) @TSNBobMcKenzie

Kovalchuk did say, like Ovechkin did, that he may not return to the NHL when the lockout ends. Ovechkin has returned, and I bet Kovalchuk will too, but the thought of him not puts the Devils in extreme turmoil

It is business. Nothing else. Isn't that they the owners tried NOT to honor the contracts that they signed? Save your vehemence for both sides, please.

And why should the KHL help the NHL out? They also have a business to run. What is the NHL going to do about it? Nothing. There is nothing that they can do.
