Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
I've heard Kovalchuk rumors (staying in RUS?) but not able to confirm. NJD told me they "haven't heard (Kovy) isn't coming back."
he cant NOT come back. it isnt an option. he'll be back..
Your right, the KHL and NHL have an agreement but if the KHL can land a star like Kovy they will pay fines do whatever they would have to do to keep him.
Do I believe Kovy will come back YES! he has till this weekend before camp starts and lets face it he is a freak and most likely already in great shape so perhaps he is just getting in the last couple of games before returning for the weekend.
My question is what in the punishment for the KHL to retain any of these NHL players that has a contract and chooses to stay in the KHL when then NHL officially in back??

The last thing we need is for Kovy to suffer a injury in a game that's completely irrelevant.

You are completely right, however Kovy is not thinking about getting hurt at all, and until that CBA is official he legally (per agreement) does not need to be here. So really its his choice to stay for the couple extra games.
There's more contact in an NHL practice than a KHL game. Taormina broke his ankle in practice a couple years ago. You can get injured at any time.
I'm aware of that but freak accidents can happen at any time. I'm just saying that with the NHL season about to get underway, we should take the least amount of risks as possible.

Most likely over. Only way its under is if they hold him to less than 20 games with the big club this season. I imagine he would hit 50 somewhere around mid-February if he so desired.
