A handful of NHL UFAs have been invited to various AHL camps (with NHL affiliates in brackets)

-Adam Comrie who was under contract to Florida before having his contract terminated, has been invited to Hershey(Washington)'s camp.
-Ryley Grantha, who was under contract to Calgary before not being qualified, has been invited to Houston (Minnesota)'s camp.
-Nick Petersen, who was under contract to Pittsburgh before having his contract terminated a few weeks back, has been invited to Houston's camp, as well.
-Francois Bouchard, who was under contract to NY Rangers before not being qualified, has been invited to San Antonio (Florida)'s camp.
-Michael Neal, who was under contract to Dallas before not being qualified, has been invited to Wilkes-Barre (Pittsburgh)'s camp.
-Most notably, Cam Barker, who was under contract to Edmonton before not being qualified, has been invited to Texas' (Dallas) camp.

Now both of the Neal's could be migrating to the Pittsburgh Penguins organization from Dallas in a matter of a few years. Since James is a Penguin, only makes sense WB/S has interest in Michael.

Also he already has a nickname O'****tivan.

Since the lockout burns a year of contracts do Getz and Perry become UFA's next July 1st?

According to eliteprospects, Pavel Kubina's contract with HC Vitkovice is a real contract, not a lockout contract, for this season. He signed there on September 15th.

Shawn Hunwick, who played 1 game last year for Columbus before becoming an UFA, has signed with Las Vegas of the ECHL. Hunwick, who previously signed with Salzburg of Austria (And it was reported, with Bolzano of Italy, but I don't know what happened there), is an UFA.

Brad Mills signed with the Utah Grizzlies
http://utahgrizzlies.com/news/?article_id=2246

Mills played 24 games with the New Jersey Devils last year.

I'm a little surprised that he didn't even got a chance to play in the AHL. I guess his veteran status hurt his chances of playing in the A (283 games in pro hockey, limit is 260)

Also Dany Masse is taking a sabbatical year from hockey :

Quote:
L'effet domino a été tel qu'un joueur dans une situation semblable à celle de Fortier, l'ailier Dany Massé, a préféré prendre une année sabbatique et s'inscrire à l'Université McGill...
http://www.lapresse.ca/sports/hockey...s-bulldogs.php

So it says : With the domino effect in the AHL, Massé chose to take a sabbatical year and study at McGill.

I'm not what Masse's intentions are. Does he want to join the Redmens or will he return to the AHL in 2013-2014?

He might have to find another once again, because he was released from his try-out contract with Las Vegas.

However, he is currently attending Providence Bruins' camp
http://www.oursportscentral.com/serv...es/?id=4494265

Also Zach Cohen (Colorado) signed with Bakersfield

Hunwick is now pursing his amazing journey to South Carolina (ECHL).

Quote:
NORTH SMITHFIELD -- The Providence Bruins released seven players from their training camp this morning.

All seven are headed to the South Carolina Stringrays, Boston's affiliate in the ECHL, according to coach Butch Cassidy.

Let go were goalie Shawn Hunwick, defensemen Art Bidlevski, Damon Kipp and Ryan Lowery, and forwards Matt Pistilli, Alden Hirshfeld and Justin Courtnall.
So he has now been released by Salzburg (Austria), Bolzano (Italy), Las Vegas (ECHL) and Providence, in the span of three months.

Maybe with the lack of NHL hockey, the NHL could launch a new game show titled 'Where In the World Is Shawn Hunwick?'

Per Larry Brooks, Matt Gilroy has signed with Connecticut of the AHL and will likely sign with the Rangers once the lockout is over.

Matt Gilroy has signed AHL contract with Whale. Prodigal free agent D presumably will sign with Rangers when lockout ends.

Man, Matt Gilroy sure has moved around a lot in his short career so far. NY, TB, Ott and now back to NY.

Just saw it on eliteprospects. Never thought I'd see him back in the Rangers organization. I mean, if he does sign there when the lockout ends he will probably be waived and sent to the Whale anyway, but having him go back to the Rangers is weird. I doubt he'd make their roster, even over guys like Steve Eminger or Stu Bickel. He'd be a fine player in the AHL and for a recall though.

Brett MacLean, a RFA with Phoenix, has retired from professional hockey.

MacLean, if you don't remember, suffered a heart attack while working out this past summer.

Quote:
The miracle that saved his life was accompanied by news that he'd have to end his hockey career. With the cause of MacLean's cardiac arrest unknown, doctors inserted an implantable cardiac defibrillator, which will monitor his heart for abnormalities and prevent him from participating in contact sports.
Sad that his career is over before it really began (just 18 games in the NHL) but lucky that he's alive as the article says "The survival rate in Canada for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests is just five per cent."

Kurtis Forster leaves Tappara(FEL) and goes to North-America to finalize his new NHL-deal. No word about which team it is.

BTW, Kristian Huselius (whose name repeatedly came up over summer as a possible bargain UFA) has decided to retire because of injuries per Kevin Allen

UFA Dominic Moore will likely not return to the NHL this season, barring his choice of course. His wife, Katie passed away due to her battle with cancer.

That's a good one, but why not just stick with the name he earned in Edmonton.
