He passes up to many opportunities to shoot. Watch him wait for the one timer, he returns ever pass that is not EXACTLY in his sweet spot. He does not (maybe can not?) adjust to the pass. Probably he does this because he is nervous and wants every shot to be a KABOOM! Nevertheless, it makes him ineffective.

The problem you mention, well...that is why he won't get the ice time.

The best thing I can say about his game without the puck is that for a guy his size, he does lay out the solid bodycheck once every two or three games.

It is in his hands. He needs to be more confident in his shot, and confident in his positioning defensively. Otherwise, he will never develop. I do not see it happening for him in the NHL

He was drafted in the third round and isn't really exceeding any expectations.

The best we can hope for is a 3rd rounder (and thats unlikely) or an equivalent older prospect trying to break in the league.

I dont see how you can say his shot isnt effective when the guy, while not playing every game, not being given lot of ice time, manages to be among our best scorers (for D).

Well, on the other hand, if yo want your youngsters (not only him) to learn from their mistakes and improve, you have to give them ice time - even when they arent doing very good. Dont think he learned all that much from the pressbox last season.

I think the guys that will make a difference this year are the guys who are one year older and need to continue to develop into top tier NHLers with no excuses (Eller, Subban, Price) and those who had down years (Gomez, Pleks, Bourque).

The veterans just need to keep bringing what they brought.

Kovalev tries out with Panthers !
Was hoping he'd get an invite to Montreal. Short season would be perfect for him and he could have retired as a Hab.

unless Gionta manages to play whole season without being injured and that Bourque is on fire, dont expect Plekanec to do any better offensively. There's so much the guy can do with no wingers. I mean, we arent talking about Malkin or Datsyuk here...

He does not have the skills to overcome the fact that he is the wrong fit for this team and how it is built.

He has some very good parts of his game, but it just is not enough to force anyone to give him that ice time. He needs to take it, he needs to leave no doubt. My opinion is he cannot.

Is it always going to be the "he did not get a chance" excuse?

That means Leblanc, Gallagher and other Dogs players have no chance to make the team.

Yannick Weber to the Isles for David Ullstrom or Casey Cizikas seems fair?

or if the Habs are looking for better goalie prospects maybe Kevin Poulin can be an option?

Agree. I think it is a decent bet for Gionta to be relatively injury free. This last year was a big change from his durable past. Bourque...well...he needs to be more than what we have seen. He needs to be better then the guy that Kelly Hrudy (yes, Mr. Nice Guy) called out as being a softie at the beginning of last season.

I have faith in Gionta, and for Bourque... well... we can always pray for a miracle personality/heart transplant

@RenLavoieRDS, ex #Habs Andrei Kostitsyn may join Alex Kovalev as a Florida Panthers training camp invite.

I miss the Pleks/AK46/AK27 line.

I thought AK was locked into the KHL all year?

He signed a full year regular contract, so I don't think he'd be able to come over. makes the rumours about his invite a bit dubious.

Only Dumont and Blunden got a slight chance for the time being.

I don't see Dumont making the team this year with the signing of Armstrong, it's basically what we signed him for. If Armstrong isn't back next year then Dumont will have a great shot at getting his spot

Anyone that gets AK46 on an invite is getting a steal. Besides his hiccup with a long night during the playoffs, he was great with the Preds.

I think he belongs in this league, easily.

I hated both Kostitsyn brothers and Montreal is a better team without them.

i think kaberle can actually get going again
if you give him easy matchups and use his to transition the game and on PP, I have a feeling he will be usefull even though i still hate the trade.

Its a short season, PK and Gorges eat up alot of minutes
we have bouillon who even at his age can still eat up alot of minutes, keep emelin and markov under 20 and Kabarle can become useful

playing kabarle over 15 mins ES though and you're in trouble

he should be on the pp for the full 2 minutes with pk and markov swapping the second D spot

Not only was it a joke, it was also on August last year that he made the joke...
