His opportunity for a spot should come up next year when Morrow and Jagr are gone.
I can't remember if I saw the OHL trade deadline or the deadline for all of the CHL is January 10th, but someone also reported they were meeting to push it back.

The NHL coming back right in the middle of the deadline for the CHL leagues is causing some problems. They either have to make conditional trades, which means they could end up with absolutely nothing, or the league needs to do the smart thing and push the deadline back.

I'm sure more info will be coming out fairly soon.

G. Smith's team is loading up for a run. Owen Sound just picked up Cody Ceci.

QMJHL trade deadline is today.

Troy Vance was traded from Victoriaville to the PEI Rocket today.

Maxime Lagace is also expected to be moved from PEI. Deadline is in less than 2 hours so it will be interesting to see where he ends up if he does get moved.

Kitchener (OHL/Radek Faksa) also seems to be loading up.

They traded some younger players and picks for Sudbury's top scoring forward and top scoring D. They also swapped backup goalies, but I think Kitchener's backup is actually pretty good (stuck behind Gibson).

Just noticed that the forward Kichener picked up, Joshua Leivo, becomes the leading scorer for Kichener by a 16 point margin.

Yeah, Bibeau has become their guy. The chasm in SV% between the two guys on the same team is pretty damning for Lagace. .916 to .865... The disturbing part is that Bibeau is younger by a year and a half.

Its also been confirmed he has not been traded. Disappointing seeing as he is stuck in a backup role now, would of been nice for him to be a starter somewhere else.

I read an article today at work about the Niagara Ice Dogs, and I wish I had an opportunity to save the link before I moved on.

The GM pretty much said anything could happen, and they were exploring all options. However, the attitude of the piece made me feel the man was excepting the fact he would be taking apart a very good team.

This is far from a perfect example of them throwing in the towel, but they have made two trades for NHL draft eligible players in the past few days. That seems more like an eye for the future though than this season.

The GM also said he's essentially given in to the fact that Dougie Hamilton is done in the OHL, but there is much less certainty with Ritchie and Strome.

Selfishly, that made me wonder if the Kitchener Rangers, clearly buying at this deadline, had the assets to make another big move like land Brett Ritchie.

The best way to answer that question I could come up with was to ask (via Twitter) the beat reporter covering the Rangers if he thought the team had the assets to make that type of a move, and he said they'd potentially have the assets in two NHL draft eligible forwards (Sterk and Pedersen).

It's beyond a long shot, but it would definetly be interesting to see Ritchie end up in Kitchener. At the very least, I'm giving in to the fact that Niagara is probably about to be dismantled by the Thursday deadline.

Update on Kitchener at the trade deadline:

Quote:
First, believe it or not, the Kitchener Rangers are not done dealing. Coach/GM Steve Spott is still shopping for a front line centre.
Quote:
Spott said he's comfy with Curtis Meighan as a fourth line centre. As for the rest? It's up in the air. If he cannot acquire a pivot, the team will look to Josh Sterk, Matia Marcantuoni, Radek Faksa and probably try Tobias Rieder in the spot.

Guptill is failing. Troock keeps putting up points somehow.

The dismantling of the Niagara Ice Dogs may have begun, and Brett Ritchie may have broke the news:

Can't find a single story about this yet. EDIT: It's been on Twitter for about an hour.

Wow, yeah if they're moving complimentary pieces like Theoret you've got to believe the stars (lowercase) are goners.

Niagara was always a 1 line team. You can't get very far in the playoffs that way, I think they're making the right call.

Ughh ... made me cringe. Seems like a similar injury Morrow and Modano have suffered. I guess the only positive was they were stepped on, and that young man was sliced. You'd hope that not having the weight of 200 lbs. NHLer stepping down on you would do a little less damage.

Nucks fan coming in peace!

I'm finetuning my keeper league prospects and I'm holding on Branden Troock, but I have to drop someone to make room to fortify my goalie prospects ranks.

Would you think the assessments that surfaced after the draft about him being a very much of a boom-or-bust power forward prospect would still apply? Have you seen him play this season, do you have any insight on how he's started?

Another significant injury that made him miss nearly the entire first half of the season scares me. He already missed an entire season to injury.

For a keeper league, I'd be scared to hold onto him. He's playing again right now, but it's a risk.

Was it a fluke one or something relatable to his neck/concussion stuff? That'd be a bummer if that is what would keep him from trying to reach his ceiling.. also he has one of the best hockey names in my mind. Would you say btw that Molin's play has warranted him the high praise I read about him at the last Stars development camp he was at? I'd love to have at least Stars prospect on my hands so I could follow the team more closely (Campbell doesn't count.. mrr)

I don't think they ever announced anything more than an upper body injury.

Molin is a guy I've really liked, and I think the WJC recently confirmed that for me. He's not in the same wheelhouse as R. Smith or Chiasson yet, but he's guy I'm excited to see come to NA. That could be next season or it could be 2014-15. My guess is he will spend time in Dallas and Austin when the Swedish season is over.

it sounds like the ultimate choice is between molin or troock? if so, the no-brainer pick is molin. i liked both guys at the development camp, but molin impressed me more. this and the aforementioned performance at the wjc's.

(this must be a crazy deep keeper league if you're looking at these guys.)

Brett Ritchie and Ryan Strome are still IceDogs which pretty much sucks IMO.

They traded away their lineumate, and the did didn't do anything to replace Dougie Hamilton.

At least Ritchie can join Texas after the season.

Guptill is struggling. IDK if that's a move he'd pull though.
