Markov Subban and Kaberle? Is that what they consider 3 #1 guys?

I'm game with trading Zibanejad for MDZ. I doubt the rest of the board is.

Im all for that. Makes sense for both teams as well since the rangers wouldn't be able to take back a cap hit.

Maybe ottawa could offer sheet at 5, 5.5 or try to trade for him. In both ways it will force Mtl hands wich would be great . What do you guys thinks about this a top for of Cowen Karlsson Methot Subban would be solid.
If we're going to offer sheet a defenceman I'd rather it be Kulikov.

NYR doesn't even need to cut salary, they have a full roster and 5.5 mil of cap space.

I'd be all over that deal but I think the Rangers would be crazy to do it.

The rangers are at 71mil and Del Zotto still needs to be signed.

Don't forget that Redden counts against the cap now.

Looks like the Rangers are at 64 counting Redden. Seems fine for now.

I would like Del Zotto from the Rangers. They really will face Cap issues in future seasons. As a RFA.... He wants too much. We could give him more with no cap problems long term. Like 4.4 or 4.5 for 5 years. A bit of a risk but then we have 3 young great D long term in EL, Cowen and Del Zotto. He would fit into Maclean's system.

So the issue is who could we offer? The Rangers might want to sign him and keep him but the situation is he is reastically available. The Rangers want to win now. They are the Stanley Cup favorites. 8-1 in Vegas. But Del Zotto is their 4th defenceman. They will want a lot. Would they do it just for prospects? Maybe if Zibanejad is included plus. But they likely want a roster player... Probably a cheaper one. They could want Greening. I would not want to lose him but it could be worth it in a package? Could Condra actually play somewhere in their top 12? Torts would like him.

Hard for the Sens to give up roster players. Probably worth it for Del Zotto. Would you give up Greening and Zibanejad for Del Zotto?

Honestly, I'd be very close to saying yes to that.

Although I'd prefer to give up someone who's more bottom 6, because they're easier to replace... Someone like Condra, or Daugavins, or Da Bossta.

Can't they just bury him again? Is there any reason they can't in the new CBA?

I did see people's posts that they are fine regardless but I'm curious. The rangers definitely don't have cap trouble, so they will re-sign MDZ

The Rangers cap trouble is that this off-season Hagelin, Stepan, McDonagh and Sauer will all need new contracts.

What about prying a D man out of Phoenix? The sens seem to have a good relationship with them and they are rich in talent back there.

Zibanejad + + for Yandle perhaps?

Looks like Gormley and Rundblad are both ready to make the jump. Michalek id imagine can be had for relatively cheap too at that salary.

Another important rule change is that it is no longer possible to bury a player with an undesirable salary in the minor leagues as the New York Rangers have been doing with Wade Redden. Starting in 2012-13, players in the minors who earn more than $900,000 will count against the salary cap.
I think it's the remainder of 900k, so Redden counts as 5.6ish or something.

I would do Greening, Zib for MDZ. Maybe wait to see how in shape Latendresse is though first, since hes Greenings replacemet.

You could replace Greening on the third line by moving Zack Smith to wing like he played a lot last year.

Greening - Regin - Neil
Or
Greening - Smith - Neil

Isnt much better, if at all than

Smith - Regin - Neil

And it makes our d-core a lot better, since Del Zotto is young, and can play 10+ years for us.
