With The Islanders big whole that was just opened in thier top 4 they will be looking at options. It was sujested by a blackhawks fan that Niklas Hjalmarsson might be available. What type of return would Chicago be looking for?

Goal would be a legit 2nd line center. IMO, Hawks would add to Hjalmarsson if necessary depending on the quality of the 2nd line center.
The closest the Islanders could do on that is Fran Nielsen whom is holding down that spot till strome or Nelson are ready to claim it from him.
I think that the Hawks would likely be willing to do that as the core of the deal. Smaller additions could be added on either side to balance the trade out as needed.
Would the Isle be willing to move Nielsen, because that deal opens one roster spot to fill another.

Personally I would as Strome/Nelson could fill the the #2C whole well enough if the defence is stable. I would not be unhappy with
Yeah, we've talked about this one before. Both sides tend to agree on it but what holds it up is the Isles getting a center to replace Nielsen. Hopefully Strome is ready because this deal helps both teams.
I think this would be a great deal personally. One that would be very hard to pass up. Could you tell me more about Pirri than i could find in his hockey future profile?
Casey Cizikas could fill Frans shoes nicely IMO. Always been a big fan of Hammer. I'd be surprised if the Isles traded him right after signing him to a long term deal though..... but, stranger things have happened.
The only thing I don't like is the deal makes us more reliant on one or both of Montador/Oduya, two guys who I hoped would not be on our top four. Montador's been injury prone and Oduya is good one game, awful the next. Hammer is the same player every night and that kind of consistency allows for better coaching.

While that's true, Nielsen >>>> Kruger or Pirri. With signing Roszival & Brookback, the Hawks blueline can better afford to move Hjalmarson IMO.

I really think he could too. The Only question would be on the Isles 2nd line. Could Strome or Nelson take over the #2c this season or would a platoon of Boyes and Bailey be the answer. I would be more comfortable with Strome being slotted at #2c knowing two of Okposo/Bailey/Boyes are on his wings as they can handle the defncive inexperience of Strome. That with a stable above average Blueline makes me think its quite doable.

Wouldn't you think that would be best to have Carkner pair with MacDonald, to give that 2nd pairing some grit. Otherwise Hjalmarsson and MacDonald would make a pretty soft pair.

True but you could also put Hjalmarsson and Hamonic on a line together and put Striet and MacDonald together. I'm just not sure how well Carkner can play 2nd pairing minutes.

Hjalmarsson ended up playing 3rd pairing minutes last season, you can question can he handle it. NYI has some nice prospects that are almost ready, might be a good idea to give them a shot.

He also had a concussion that slowed him down, he was 2nd pairing before that injury. He was also 2nd pairing on the cup winning team.

Its funny, you keep on living in the past, wake up and its the present. From the looks of things the Hawks management don't have much faith in Hammer, with the signing of Rozsival, Brookbank and resigning of Oduya. Then there is rumor that the Hawks were shopping Hammer around, most part it was due to his salary, but in part he wasn't filling out to his potential.
Hjalmarsson is a good position D and a great shot blocker, but he has no grit, which you need to be a good 2nd pairing stay at home D.
Please don't trade Nielsen. I know the Isles need D but I'd rather package picks/prospects for it. Nielsen is one of our few quality veterans. Plus he's our best defensive forward, best PKer, is good for 40-50 points and is one of the top shootout performers in the league(if not THE top player in the shootout. Haven't seen the numbers recently but I know he had the best career % at some point last season).
If Chi-Town isn't interested in picks/prospects I'd just look elsewhere. So much uncertainty with Strome/Nelson/Cizikas, I don't think it would be wise to part with Nielsen at this point barring some sort of ridiculous overpayment.
