My guess is : 20-23-5 45 points with a probable 48 game season...
Your thoughts?
This seems reasonable. This is still not a playoff team. In fact, the team was hurt by the Parenteau defection. Defense may be better with the additions of Visnofsky (if he comes over) and Carkner, but not by a huge margin. It'll be tough for goalies to come right out of the gates on fire, especially older goalies like Nabakov. Regardless of whether we make the playoffs or not, thrilled to have Islander's hockey back again. The future of this team is bright !

I predict Tavares goes 25-35-60 in 48 games.
I predict Nabakov gets traded for a 2nd round pick if we are out of it on April 5th.
Visnofsky goes for a 3rd round pick, IF he comes back and plays well.
I predict we have a top 10 pick in June.

Closer and closer to the playoffs we get, next offseason is HUGE, as having our future home already set in stone for 25 years, time for some FA's to see the benefit of playing along side Tavares ! I still don't see our first mega star to sign until moving to Brooklyn, but the mid-range guys we miss out on because they worried about the Isle's future, will start to sign with us.

We finish with the 3rd worst record in the NHL and get a top 5 pick. Tavares will be worth the price of admission. Capuano is fired at the end of the season and Doug Weight becomes new head coach.

One thing I will say for sure is that next year is DEFINITELY the time to really step up and make our presence known in the league in terms of the timing of our prospect pool. All the years of sucking and solid drafting should come to fruition next season, plus the security of our future in Brooklyn should make it easier for Snow to get better FA's than in recent times.

Not feeling optimistic about this season, but happy as hell that I'll actually get to watch some hockey this season. The only thing I'm optimistic about is that Tavares is going to get better, once again.
Have to agree with you here. I see this being our last season as a lottery team. This summer coming up is huge, we should grab one more elite prospect, grab a few free agents, and finally have Dipietro off the team for good. A lot of positive things coming, but I think the positives start in July.

Agree. Too many things have to go right for the team to compete in Atlantic. Like others have said, getting trounced this year isn't the worst thing. Top 5 pick and another year for our boatload of top prospects to develop. Hopefully, this sets us up for first significant FA signing since Satan this summer and an early arrival to Barclay's center to start next season

in 24 games against the Flyers, Penguins, Rangers and Devils we went 8-13-3 for 19 points.

That is with 6 games per team.

How many times are we going to play each team in the division?

If we are to have any hope we have to be at minimum a .500 team within our own division.

The one upside a lot of our guys should be in game shape.

While Grabner, Hamonic, Cizikas and Ullstrom have been down with some injuries lately, we certainly have a lot of guys who were getting regular shifts....

Okposo has sat so I am very concerned if he will have the legs going and timing down. The same with Nabby. And both are important players. Boyes has also been sitting and so I am curious how he will arrive.

I remain optimistic on Grabner and Hamonic coming in and being able to play.

I wouldn't overlook Brock Nelson, Matt Donovan, or Nino.

As of now, they will battle for the last spot or two if everyone is healthy and ready by puck drop. There is little room for error, and as usual a lot of ifs. I think part of that is can they generate a secondary line with Boyes finding himself and netting 12-15 goals over the 48 game stretch?

my prediction is that one of these boys will be pulling over the orange and blue sweater in june

Mackinnon
Jones
Druion
Lindholm
Pulock
Risto
or
Zadorov

Unless we get lucky in the lottery, this means we are looking at another bottom of the pile finish

Sean Monahan? Arguably the 4th best prospect in the draft.

Big variable in this: 48 games in about 3 months (including short Feb) vs. 82 games in 6 1/2 months.

We'll see slightly more than 1 game every 2 days.

A compressed schedule like that could help a young team with fresh legs. But they'll have less practice time. Of course, with Capuano as coach that could be a positive.

Yup, with the unbalanced schedule and a bad defense (which was shaky with Visnovsky, and horrific without him,) the Isles have pretty much no chance at the playoffs.

Competing for one of the bottom three spots in the Eastern Conference showing no signs of life and continuing in the doldrums

Our season will hinge on how well Okposo, Bailey and Grabner perform.

bailey and okposo break out while tavares passes giroux and stamkos and becomes part of "the big 3"with crosby and malkin, isles have a 32-14-2 record and sweep the rags in the first round of the play offs and beat the penguins in 7, nabakov is capable of playing a lot of games and gets into an awesome rhythm with the ridiculous amount of games he is going to be playing close together

Our season will hinge on whether or not Wang let's Snow trade for another decent defenseman because right now we are staring at anywhere from 2 to 4 rookies/AHLers on our blue line. That will directly act as a wet blanket on all our forwards' stats meaning lots of losses, no breakout seasons for anyone not named Tavares, and the puck staying in the defensive end regularly.

Top 3 pick guaranteed, unless a trade to bolster the blue line occurs soon.

Welcome, Seth Jones. Welcome.

Who knows, without the usual late Novemberand December swoon, maybe they sneak into the 8th spot.

In the last lockout shortened season, Rags got in with a 22-23-3 record. Sharks got in with a 19-25-4 record.

I'm optimistic going in, I think we can get in.

There was also 6 (?) fewer teams, no OTL and no shoot out.

54+ points to get in.

Nabokov carries the team to a playoff spot. He's a workhorse and will benefit from the shortened season.
