I want the jets to finsish 6th - 8th or 14th -15th
Not in between

The 14-15th they will just be 4 points out of the 8 spot, and miss the playoff in their 46th games.
6th to 8th will be awesome!

If Florida gets Lou, they'll finish at least 7th and knock us out because the Caps and Canes will make it too.

I agree with your "Patrick" division assessment, with many of the games intra-division, hopefully there will be alot of straight up wins (no ties/SOs) and that could bring their point totals down significantly.

Although disagree with your Canes pick - they'll probably beat out the Jets, but WPG should get 8th, on the last game, in OT, with a Mark Scheifele breakaway

These predictions are quite different so how I would pick if it was a full season.
The Jets in #6 is really wishful thinking. Likely the Jets and Canes would switch spots.
I could actually see a scenario where only 2 "Patrick" teams make the playoffs since it is solid division and going more than 0.500 in it wont be easy and 0.500 in your div won't get you a PO spot with 40% of the games being divisional opponents.

I'll modify and simplify that:
IF Pav's SV% is >.915 and GAA <2.5, and
IF we finish the first 10 games above .500......we make the playoffs

If not...sorry. If we start out like last year, it could be all over within a month.

Interesting stat in the Free Press today that touches upon slow starts. Most people are saying that if you start slow out of the gate that your toast. They noted that in the 94-95 shortened season, 3 of the playoff teams were below .500, I just found that to be quite interesting.

Not sticking my neck out on the whole conference, been looking at lockout and PHX news too much to check on the other teams.

As for the hometown boys, I predict either 3rd in conference, or 7th in conference.

Yeah, I just read a report confirming that.

I thought the new cap would be implemented this season. Takes away a lot of the chaos to start the year, but next offseason is going to be very interesting.

Uh...Who is even playing defense for them? Hamonic is concussed and Visnovsky vehemently doesn't want to play there. Not to mention they're pretty bad regardless.

I also think you're seriously underrating Carolina.

Great point. Since Bogosian will miss the first several weeks, it is essential that Byfuglien shows up ready to play from game 1. If he is out of shape and/or takes a lot of time to get to top form, I think the Jets will struggle on D. The other wild card is Pavelec. If he is in great form, the Jets could challenge for the playoffs.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees Carolina winning the division and both Washington and Florida dropping off.

Long Island may be thin on the blueline, but it might be time for young guys like Ty Wishart and Calvin De Haan to finally make an appearance, also, MacDonald has been progressing nicely, add in Carkner and Streit and who knows? It might be time for John Tavares and company to right the ship. As for the Canes, I think everyone's penciling them in waaaay to high up there, I mean, Alexander Semin remains a 7million dollar question if you ask me...but hey, in 48 games, if they get Staal and Staal cooking, it might just pay off anyway. I'm just so happy to be talking about this stuff again! #gameon

I'm not going to make an overall prediction team-by-team but will instead state for the record that Winnipeg will win the Southeast division. Carolina have changed their mix upfront and adding Jordan Staal is a huge plus; but losing Ruutu to an injury sets them back, as does adding Semin - not exactly a team player, as does their weak defense core. The other teams look largely meh.

The Jets were flat right out of the gate last season due the move to a new city, due having to get used to new coaches, new management, different living conditions, higher expectations, etc. These players now have no excuses. The mix upfront is greatly improved with the addition of Jokinen down the middle, and adding Poni doesn't hurt as well. The players now know what is expected of them and will be expected to respond accordingly. This team is better than some here are willing to admit. The only questions are on D; we need Bogo back but hopefully someone like Meech can fill the hole over the interim. Pavs needs to stop giving up one weak goal against per game and the team needs to improve their overall defensive play; the addition of coach Perry Pearn and as well a defensive forward like Jokinin is going to help in that area.

I'm shocked that anyone is expecting the Rangers to not win the East. I'd not only be surprised if they didn't win it, but if they didn't finish at least 6 points up on whoever comes second (even with the abbreviated season). They were the best team last year and only got better by getting Nash (while giving up very little), having some young guys really step up late last year (i.e. MDZ), and the possibility of top prospects like Miller and Kreider making the team. Not to mention Lundqvist is probably the best goalie in the league and has been keeping in top form over in Europe.

On the main boards ( yeah I know) we are a complete unknown, Im pretty sure we have been slotted in every position inbetween 3 and 15 the average is low though, and I have to say I like us as a underdog >

Not my prediction, but these are the VUKOTA predictions:

Quote:
President's Trophy race 2012-13 - VUKOTA projections

Rank Team
1 Pittsburgh
2 Boston
3 Chicago
4 Vancouver
5 Los Angeles
6 NY Rangers
7 Philadelphia
8 San Jose
9 St Louis
10 Carolina
11 Toronto
12 Detroit
13 Nashville
14 Buffalo
15 Colorado
16 Dallas
17 Winnipeg
18 Calgary
19 Ottawa
20 Tampa Bay
21 Washington
22 Montreal
23 Edmonton
24 Minnesota
25 NY Islanders
26 Anaheim
27 New Jersey
28 Phoenix
29 Florida
30 Columbus

http://www.hockeyprospectus.com/arti...articleid=1422
So they have the East looking like this:

1 Pittsburgh with 61 points
2 Boston with 60 points
3 NY Rangers with 57 points
4 Philadelphia with 57 points
5 Carolina with 54 points
6 Toronto with 54 points
7 Buffalo with 53 points
8 Winnipeg with 53 points
9 Ottawa with 53 points
10 Tampa Bay with 53 points
11 Washington with 53 points
12 Montreal with 52 points
13 NY Islanders with 52 points
14 New Jersey with 50 points
15 Florida with 49 points

Quite a jumble at the fringe of the playoffs.

Last place? Seriously? NJ lost one of its best players, Mtl sucks, so does Toronto, no way that Ottawa repeats, Carolina is just not tht good. Good top line...nothing else. Washington downgraded, and Oates's offensive style will open up Holtby.

I highly doubt we are in LAST.
