Anybody else catch what happened on twitter between the Cowboys and the Stars?

I'm thinking it was whoever runs the Cowboys twitter account forgetting to switch to their personal account before posting that. Still hilarious though.

I think this was posted already but, looks like this is how the schedule will be made.

Each team plays: 4 games vs. two Divisional opponents (8); 5 games vs. two divisional opponents (10); 3 games vs 10 Conference rivals (30).

What?? That really screws up tiebreakers and such for the division.

Should play each division opponent same # of time and skip out on a random 2-3 conference opponents.

Probably all but guaranteed that Rangers & Islanders are the two teams we see 5 times each.

Tie breaker is ROW. Chances of being tied with someone AND being tied in ROW is unlikely. Then, IIRC, it goes by head to head so if you want a tiebreaker, just beat the teams in your division.

No....the CBA only affects contracts going forward. Anything signed before this CBA is ratified is grandfathered in. This doesn't affect Kovalchuk, Parise, Suter or Weber.

Probably better for us. Unless the Isles throw out their leaning tower of pads backup at us again, or they decide to play trash can Rick against us, and we make him look like an elite goalie as usual.

Absolutely not true..

CBA dictates how past contracts are treated. The cap savings recapture system, for instance, is one way how this CBA is treating past contracts differently.

Parise/Suter would incur penalty cap hits of around $6.2 million each for 3 years if they retire before their garbage years set in. Kovy would be something around $3.5 for two. Weber around $6.9 million for 3.

No, past contracts will definitely be penalized.
Someone did the math in a thread last night... if Kovalchuk retires 3 years early, we're stuck with a 4.something cap hit.

Got a source for that? Everything I've heard is that all contracts signed under the old CBA are grandfathered in.

The rule is called the "Luongo rule" for a reason.

Check everyone. They're all saying the same thing.

Nah we'd pretty much have to play the Rangers five times. So will the Isles I think.

I'll predict it this way:

Rangers play us and the Isles five times each, Flyers/Pens four games
Isles play the Rangers and Pens five times each, Flyers/Devils four games
Devils play the Rangers and Flyers five times each, Pens/Isles four games
Pens play the Isles and Flyers five times each, Rangers/Devils four games
Flyers play the Pens and Devils five times each, Rangers/Isles four games

Thank god they didn't go with the 7-2 format.

It definitely applies to all contracts. I've never seen a source that says they don't, so just google it.

The new rule applies for any contract in excess of six years, including ones that were signed under the last CBA.

One of the intricacies of the new yet-to-be-ratified CBA is the "cap-recapture system." Basically, this affects players with long-term deals (minimum five or six years, I'm not 100 per cent certain).

Either way, Luongo's counts because his is a 12-year deal. Therefore, there will be a penalty if he retires before the contract is completed.
and so on.

Yea, I'd be surprised if we didn't play the Rangers and Flyers 5 times each with all the playoff juju from last year.

Though I can see them wanting the Flyers playing the Rangers 5x but would be tough for them to not have Rangers vs. Islanders 5x.

Interesting whether they are making this decision based on rivalries or ease of schedule making.

This link breaks down what it might cost the Wild specifically. (The math may be off a little bit however)

The next thing I'm curious about is what out-of-division teams have to go to Winnipeg twice in this format, and what in-division teams have to make three stand-alone trips there, since they're literally the only team outside of the EST that anyone in the East will play this year.

With our lack of depth up front, he would've been a "shoe-in" to crack our top #6 over someone like Butler who's still a big question mark IMO. I would've loved something like 2 years for 2M$ per... oh well.

I'm surprised Kostitsyn would leave his KHL team just for a camp invite.

Devils' amnesty clause?

I know CBA details are still coming in but I'm pretty sure it's certain that teams are going to be allowed two amnesty buyouts: one this coming summer and one the next. Obviously it is still to be seen what the Devils' financial situation will be like and whether we'll be able to spend to the cap, but I'm just wondering if there is ANYONE that Lou would use the amnesty clause on. Here's my candidates:

Before the 2013-14 season:
1. Krys Barch - I know it's silly because he hasn't even played a game yet but he reminds me too much of a Boulton/Darren Langdon type.
2. Tallinder - If he comes back this year with an awful/injury prone year and becomes untradeable, I could see Lou biting the bullet.

These are the only two I could see being amnestied this summer. As for before the 2014-15 season:
1. Bryce Salvador - At 3.167/year, there is a decent chance that he becomes surplus by the last year in his deal. Will have to see how well he ages.
2. Anton Volchenkov - A little bit tougher because Lou would have to buy out 2 years/8.5 mil in salary, but I could see Volchenkov being deemed too expensive if our young D-prospects develop well.

So far those are the only options I could see. Most of our forwards are going to be free agents this coming summer, so I don't see anyone with a fresh contract being bought out.

Minus Barch we could all get a decent amount at the deadline for any of those guys.

If Sal sucks this year then I could see him.

I can see Volchenkov bought out before Sal, but it would probably be cheaper for Sal.

You know Barch is gonna get it this year. I think Lou knew he was gonna have to buy this guy out after a year. The same he did for Peters, and Boulton only a year into their two year contracts.

In 2014 it could be Volchenkov.

We might not use two, but I could see us definitely using one.
