Stars player to watch 2012 / 2013

Who is the player you will keep an eye on for the upcoming season?

For me it will be Alex Goligoski - he had such a good season after the Neal/Niskanen trade but last year he was mediocre even though he missed some games due his broken finger.

Hopefully he can steps in a top pair role and shows his real skills on the powerplay.

Yeah Golly would be one. I think Benn will break out, more PP time and wat better wingers lol. I also think Roy will have a great year, not sure why just see him returning to form and being a contract year.

I'd say Golly, Benn, Roy and Larsen for sure. Probably Dillon and Vincour... hopefully Morrow lol

but the one i keep my eye on is Eakin, not sure why, just really excited to see what he brings

Larsen will be my player to watch. The future success of the team as a whole is closely tied to his development. #1 center and #1 goalie are covered, but the top pairing defenseman role continues to be vacant. He is the Stars' best hope of filling that void and therefore his continued improvement is critical.

Everyone. But some that pop into my mind:

Goose needs to bounce back.
Can Ryder repeat 30G?
Jagr and Whitney. Obviously can they continue their production or not decline too much.
Will Benn take the next step and break 30g and live up to the hope?
Will Larsen have a sophomore slump? Will he continue improving as Piqued said.
Is Dillon a #6 or a #4?
If Chiasson/Glennie make it.
Can Robidas stop losing his coverage and laying on loose pucks looking for a whistle?

Send a message via ICQ to ginblossoms
eriksson and daley are locks for 70 and 20-something points, respectively. no concerns there.

guy's i'm eager to see develop further are benn and larsen (and not just 'cause they're both on my keeper league team roster).

also looking forward to a goligoski comeback, eakin's energy, and how goalie system shakes out (bachman/nihlstorp/campbell).

I'm really looking forward to seeing Whitney. He has such a unique and cerebral play style. Whenever I saw him when the stars were playing Phoenix I was so nervous as to what he would do next since he's so slippery and skilled. Can't wait to see it for our team.

Nucks fan visiting: What do you expect out of Tomas Vincour this season, and in the future? Seeing his article in HF is quite a short read, and him apparently out of the prospect voting on this board, I'd love to know more..

I wouldn't expect Whitney to match last year, but who knows?

Looking forward to seeing more of this Jagr fellow.

Benn and Eriksson should have big years. Whether it's Francis, Nedved, Straka, Nylander, Hartnell, Giroux, et al.... where Jagr goes, usually career bests follow.

This season, most Stars fans have him pencilled in on the 3rd line RW playing with Brenden Morrow and Cody Eakin. Is already a decent 2-way player, solid defensively but still searching for scoring touch at the top level (talent is undeniably there). This season I'd be more than happy with 10-20-30 playing a full season on the 3rd line.

Further down the line, a defensively responsible 2nd/3rd line tweener at the 40 point level.

Edit: I keep forgetting that the guy is only 21. Easy to think he's been around longer than that!

Weirdly enough, having seen reaally little of him, I was thinking he would compare well to a guy like Jannik Hansen.. doesn't seem I was all that wrong. Thanks for the info, might try and take him for my keeper league..

Does your league give points for shooting a good chance directly into the goalie's chest? Because that is Vincour's specialty.

Yeah this guy is a riddle he can't score goals and isn't really useful as player in a checking line. We will see what Glen plans with him.

He's a very good 3rd liner even without scoring...

If Vincour played an entire season with 3rd line minutes he'd pretty easily outscore Fiddler/Dvorak/Nystrom even if he didn't make any offensive improvements, which he probably will, since he's 21.

I don't want to create a new thread so I will post a similar question here.

Which player do you think will be the biggest surprise and who the biggest disappointment?

Imo Eakin will have huge impact on the 3rd line for the Stars game
on the other hand I could see Goligoski as big disappointment.

I think Goli will be fine. I think Larsen's progression will help ease some of his minutes and the situations he's used in. I also wouldn't be shocked to see Dillon-Daley become Dallas' most consistent duo at ES.

For surprise ... I'll go with Mark Fistric get's traded sooner rather than later. I'll think he'll struggle to keep Rome in the 7th D spot, and they move him quickly to avoid damaging his trade value.

Rather than going with Rome full time. The runner up between Oleksiak and Dillon gets a full time gig with the big boys.

I was originally saying we'd see it closer to the trade deadline, but I think we'll see this happen much sooner.

I eventually want to see Larsen and Oleksiak together, but I don't see Gully having the balls to go with a sophomore and rookie pair.

Dillon-Daley
Goligoski-Larsen
Oleksiak-Robidas

Oops ... meant to day disappointment for Fistric.

I really like Modo's surprise of Vincour. That's what I want to see more than anything. If anything is going to drag the offense out of him at the NHL level, you'd think it'd be playing on the same team as the greatest Czech hockey player in history.

I'll go with him as surprise 1A, but 1B goes to Derek Roy. I think he'll go above and beyond what we expect.

Surprise - Jagr (just a feeling, I doubt he does anything more than we expect)

Disappointment - Ryder

I was actually thinking to list Ryder as the 3rd surprise

I think the natural reaction to him losing Ribeiro would be to expect him to backslide, but he played well an nearly any line they put him on.

I think the combo of Roy and Whitney though will do wonders for him. Probably means they don't trade him at the deadline, but if they were willing, he could fetch a pretty significant asset.

I could see Vincour breaking out offensively too. Seems like a fair possibility.
