this pick would meet a few team needs mostly drafting another one of our own after the leddygate

When he's locked in and engaged he is so ******* good, BUT the problem is that his intensity will wane at times and he'll look and play disinterested.

Also, he needs some coaching up, as he'll cheat on his positioning because he has the skating ability to recover.

He's got scary good upside but he also scares alot of NHL scouting staffs because he's not quite a "sure thing."

Let me put it this way- if I were an NHL team with multiple first rounders, I'd look into taking Vannelli with my second pick or right away in the 2nd round.

So, assuming a 48 game season and the Wild making the playoffs, a top 15 pick is no more. Who would/should we target in the 2nd half of the round? Are there enough interesting players in the 2nd round to maybe use a 3rd and 4th to move back into the 2nd, as we've done recently?

Right now, I'm kind of hoping for a Santini/Vanelli first two picks, but I don't know much about the guys in this range.

Might be cool to get Hudson Fasching...no idea where he's predicted to go.

I'd keep a list of the lottery picks too. At either rate I'd be looking hardest for centers.

Not optimistic about this year either, eh? Assuming playoffs (because that's more fun)...

I saw that, but it's also fun to think about the guys in the top-15.

Depending on where we draft, i would not mind taking him from 15th or lower pick, sure he has a risk to him but we have seen this organization help players in their development.

There will be plenty of interesting guys probably even into the 3rd. May be worth it to trade down and grab another pick too.

And I would love it if we got Santini.

I wouldn't say no to Jonas Brodin - Seth Jones pairing in the future
Haven't seem him much but what I've seen was impressive.

im hoping the wild draft "dano" in a later round. i could see myself wearing his jersey. 9. Marko Dano, C, Slovakia: The 5-11, 183-pound Dano was an offensive force for the Slovaks, who proved to be a tough out in Group B despite the eighth-place finish. In six games, Dano connected for four goals and finished sixth among all scorers at the WJC with nine points. His 22 shots were tied for second on the team. Dano, according to Stubb, is presently the best pro prospect among the Slovaks and Czech Republic. In 26 games for HC Slovan Bratislava in the KHL, Dano has three goals, five points and a plus-2 rating. Stubb felt Dano played as expected at the WJC.

Minnesota will be drafting in the bottom 16. They weren't hit terribly with injuries and their players have stayed in shape. Too bad. A Lottery pick would have been wonderful.

last year we were a playoff bound team until 4 of our top six went down for the count. we had no depth to replace them. this year we have a better team and forward depth, missing D help. i still think we'll be a solid playoff team unless goaltending falls apart. say goodbye to top 10 draft picks.

Could happen. I think Maatta was pretty highly regard before the draft; I remember seeing him ~8-12 in a lot of early mocks.

I've been watching Fasching play since his squirt days at Apple Valley (he and my son played against each other all the way to HS, as well as AAA hockey in the summer). He was always a man amongst boys on the ice. He's got size and smarts...both on the ice smarts and classroom smarts. Also a very nice kid with a very touching family story (do a Google search).

I've seen him projected to go anywhere from bottom of the 1st round to the top half of the 2nd round.

Also, keep an eye out for Taylor Cammaratta.....he's a Maple Grove kid who played for Shattuck. He happened to play with Nathan Mackinnon on the same SSM teams and put up MUCH better numbers than the highly touted Canadian. The only thing keeping Taylor out of the Top 10 is his size...but the kid has a scoring touch.

*EDIT* One more player to watch is Ian McCoshen (Hudson, WI). Big and mobile defenseman...I have also watched him play a fair amount of hockey through his youth.

Just reading hf's new article on USHL draft eligible guys.

Quote:
Vinny Lettieri, F – Lincoln Stars

Grandson of Lou Nanne—a Minnesota hockey legend who served as a defenseman, coach and general manager for the defunct North Stars—Lettieri made a name for himself by accruing 60 points (23 goals, 37 assists) in 28 games at Minnetonka High School before joining the Lincoln Stars for 15 games last season. He had eight points last season (4 goals, 4 assists) and played in seven playoff games for Lincoln.

This season he has got off to a fast start with 23 points in his first 28 games.

“Explosive skater with an unrelenting work ethic,” says one scout. “Engaged across the sheet – a smart, details player that is reliable in most situations. Offensive upside with his vision and distribution skills.”
Anybody think the Wild could be interested in this guy? Sounds like maybe a 2nd/3rd rounder by the description, I haven't seen him mentioned much so I am just guessing. Pick up another guy in the Nanne line.
