Might be weird, but it feels so good to have that thread back! Means hockey is really back!

Unless the NHL and KHL go to war over some of the other players who might stay in the KHL and tear up the MoU, I guess. I hope AK does come back, though. I've always wanted to see him get a go in a new spot. The Nashville thing wasn't long enough.

Kostitsyn has played 400 games on two different teams under a wide variety of coaches and people still think there's more there?

You guys have the patience of saints. And this from the guy with a Kostitsyn jersey in his closet.

Yeah, but with every one of those coaches, I always thought Kostitsyn was getting shafted. To at least some extent. I think we all know the likely outcome. And there aren't actually a lot of NHL coaches who will ever really take the leash off most players anyway, it's not 1983 or anything. So of course it's not going to work out any different. But just for closure.

My useless internet condolences to ex-hab Dominic Moore whose wife passed recently.

Cancer got my dad, so I really feel for the guy.

Terrible, terrible thing...

More there? Not at all.

But what has already been shown is that of essentially a league average 2nd line winger. That's at least worth a roster spot on pretty much every team. Just because you can't count on a guy to lead you to victory doesn't make him worthless. He's solid value for a middle 6 winger.

So is Kovalchuk staying in the KHL for the remainder of the season?

There were priods in his career where he played like a low end 1st liner or high end 2nd liner. Not like his career's been a failure. He IS streaky though. He gets a lot of flak for being drafted ahead of player X Y and Z moreso than being a bad player.

His career stats are 398 GP 103-119-222 which factor out to 21-25-46. That's 2nd line production on 75-80% of NHL teams

I would have liked him being re-signed for 1 year around 2-2.5 mil.

Did you guys watch AO's interview on TSN's website and the news about Kovalchuk? Drafting Russians really does come with risks so we should be relieved that Gally considers himself more American than Russian hew.

Gally's perfect. He's like the star child of the Cold War.

Meanwhile in Russia, Radulov is a healthy scratch for fighting with his coach. Turns out it's not a "Russian factor" with him, he's as much of a headache overseas as he is in the NHL.

I can't believe some of you wanted to trade Plekanec for this guy.

The overwhelming majority of Russian NHLers are already on their way back to honor their contracts. The two guys causing trouble right now are Kovalchuk, who was always money-obsessed, and Visnovsky, who isn't Russian or even close to being Russian. The problem is the KHL is causing trouble and using the new CBA as an excuse to try and get players to violate their NHL contracts to poach talent, and yes their focus will be on Russian players.

Strange having one of the healthiest teams to start the season - Not saying it will remain that way by any means though lol

If Kovalchuk stays in Russia the Devils might be the worst team in the league. Well, Columbus is still worse, but their top line will be anchored by a 36 year old Elias and a 34 year old Zubrus.

don't forget Henrique which is a fine young hockey player.

But I agree, losing Parise and Kovalchuk on an already bad offensive team, yikes!!!

We already have one of those guys in Rene Bourque and people are already trying to ship him out the door. Not sure adding another potential headache is such a good idea right now.

I don't understand the love Kostitsyn gets here. He is what he is, which is a streaky 2nd liner who is good for 40-50 pts. Nothing more. He will never be a superstar in any league.

2013/01/04: Adam Henrique had his cast removed from his hand this week and now he will require three and a half to four weeks of rehab, according to Devils GM Lou Lamoriello. Henrique sustained a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb back on Nov. 25 while playing for AHL Albany against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and it required surgery to repair. He probably won't be ready to start playing right away should a settlement be reached soon to end the lockout. (Source: The Bergen Record)

Because there are so many people here claiming him to be more, right?

He definitely could be more, be he won't. Sad.

I'm glad he's gone.
