Why? Because they think negotiations took too long? I can't see that happening for anyone unless the Russians are trying to lure some of the mid-tier guys to stay.

I doubt any NHLer would stay in Europe and risk never playing in the NHL again.

I doubt any fan would not watch the NHL and risk being so bored again.

I'll be the biggest NHL fan in the world if it comes back tomorrow. They could never drive me away, as sad as that may seem.

Am I the only person who doesn't think the Canes will make the playoffs?

They've become overrated quickly. Ruutu/Sutter out, Staal/Semin in is an upgrade of course, but not that much of an upgrade that they're a sure-fire playoff team.

Tuonmo signed an extension to stay in Carolina I thought? Or do they have another Ruutu?

Tuomo's out with injury / surgery recovery until April, at least.

I was talking about him being out for a few months and perhaps the entire season, sorry for the confusion.

Ah I did not look at earlier comments where that might have been mentioned. Just saw you grouping him with Sutter and assumed that meant he was traded. You know what they say about assumptions heh.

Kovalev to attend Panthers training camp

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=649395

Quote:
Veteran forward Alex Kovalev will attend training camp with the Florida Panthers, according to a report.

Kovalev spent last season in the KHL and most recently played in the NHL for the Pittsburgh Penguins at the end of the 2010-11 season.

Kovalev, who turns 40 next month, was a 1991 first-round pick of the New York Rangers. Between two stints each with the Rangers and Penguins, and stops in Montreal and Ottawa, he has compiled 428 goals and 1,024 points in 1,302 NHL games.

Kovalev is done, over the hill and old and can bring nothing to the table anymore. No idea what the Panthers expect out of him.

Even worse....they're also inviting Svatos. He was painful to watch with the Sens a couple years ago. Kudos to him for trying, but I see absolutely no chance he makes the team.

Kovalev could be huge in a leadership role. The Panthers should sign him just for that!

Seems like the North East got substantially tougher this offseason. I had completly forgot Buffalo added Steve Ott and John Scott this offseason. Montreal added Prust and Armstrong. Boston is Boston. And who gives a crap about Toronto.

Nothing to worry about with him except for staged fights. He'd barely be able to keep up with Cheechoo lol

The tougher the other teams, the less talented they are. Remember, Buffalo lost Roy. Montreal lost... well, Staubitz. Boston lost Corvo and Zanon, both useful defencemen.

I know Roy had an off year last season but Roy only had 5 more points than Ott did. Ott played 6 less games also so I doubt Buffalo is going to see a huge difference offensive wise.

Wouldn't be shocked to see Grigorenko make the Sabres and put up big numbers with sheltered ice time. Buffalo is going to be able to replace the offence Roy gave em.

Makes you second guess letting go both Carkner and Konopka. Hindsight is of course 20/20 but with Cowen out, man oh man Carkner would look solid in that #6 d-man role.

Let's hope Neiler steps up and guys like Greening, O'Brien, Smith play a real gritty game.
