Lol what the hell are you talking about? The Capitals have drafted very well in the first round of the draft for awhile now. I sometimes question if you even watch the Capitals play, you're lack of knowledge about them is hilarious.
No sense in rehashing history, but you're happy with the state of the team right now?
good news. the trade deadline is coming up soon. mcphee can get right on with selling off.
as for rebuilding. the caps could fire mcphee and then the new gm could fire sale off all those aging out vets in the caps core lineup. ovechkin, backstrom, johansson, laich, alzner, carlson, green, orlov, holtby and neuvirth. they could bring is some high round picks to add to prospects like forsberg and grubauer and wilson. it might be fun.
Hard to include OV in that group, wouldn't you agree? Makes too much, and is pretty one-dimensional.... IMO.
Backstrom, he's someone who'd make GM's drool. Holtby too... but some of the glitter is off of him after these last couple o' month's play.
Carlson/Green/Alzner have value. But not as much as they once did.
The others you cite, have their equals on every team in the league.
The glow is off the Caps... has been for a while.
Oh... been enjoying reading your ideas, and exchanging. If the mods want to end this thread, I'll chime in on other threads. Good posts by many here lately.
Too late for firesale. Should have done last deadline (Semin, Wideman, Hamrlik, Vokoun) and before the draft (Laich, Neuvirth, Green). Getting a ton of players in the 12 and 13 drafts with the shortened season would have been a lot more effective. Then sign Getzlaf, Perry, Zajac, Smid this summer. Would be back and ready to go next season. This year's cup is tainted anyway.
