That's pretty much a nightmare pair. It's just the only one that made sense bases on the twitter aspect. However, it's very likely I missed something or that I'm reading too far into things. He said the article revealing the answer would be out after midnight tonight so we can all just figure it out then.

That's a possibility. I haven't seen too much of Reese before but I know he's spent some time in NY with the isles. So that could be it.

I seriously ****ing hope it's not Dylan Reese

edit: also I didn't realize this was being discussed in this thread. I'll post what I put in the other thread which is just more tweets from Molinari...

Bylsma says Paul Martin will remain in a top-4 role and, in tomorrow's P-G, identifies a surprising candidate to be his new defense partner.

Dave Molinari ‏@MolinariPG
Based on the many guesses that have come in so far, people really will be surprised by the identity of Martin's possible defense partner.

Dave Molinari ‏@MolinariPG
Remarkably, despite guesses ranging from Jesus to Greg Hotham to Zarley Zalspski to Tyler Kennedy, no one has picked the right guy.

Dave Molinari ‏@MolinariPG
Amazing. In 29 minutes (and countless dozens) of responses, correct name of Martin's potential defense partner was mentioned exactly once.

We ought to be more concerned with Geno coming back than who Martin's partner defensively is

I saw from a reporter on twitter that he and Gonchar were waiting for a definate training camp date to come back. Don't worry, he'll be back

Yeah, Malkin already said he will honor his NHL deal. There's nothing to be concerned about.

I guess we'll have to wait till tomorrow to find out because Molinari actually cares about the integrity of his story. Damn him.

I'd guess it will be somebody like Bortuzzo or Despres since only one person guessed it by responding to him on twitter.

Prepared to not be shocked when it's Lovejoy. He's been a big staple in all of the unofficial practices iirc.

Just getting my body ready for it.

If Martin is expected to be in a top 4 role then his D partner would have to be someone already on the team. I doubt any of the D-men in WBS are top 4 material just yet. Maybe Despres but I don't even think he's ready for a top 4 role yet.

I did hear in one of Crosby's interviews that Adams and Lovejoy were sort of running the SouthPointe workouts

Also be prepared to see that combo be broken up after 1 game because they are both like minus 4 or 5.

I would love to see Robert Bortuzzo become a prominent member of this team. I think his game is what we need on defense. No, he's not the most talented D prospect we have, but he has what we need...and sometimes that's more important.

I saw Despres as a guess during the time when he said no one had made the right guess yet. I thought Bortuzzo at first but then started thinking maybe Nisky.

Robert Bortuzzo has pretty much been the best defensive defenseman in the AHL for the past two seasons. He would be a perfect compliment to Paul Martin. I think he is beyond ready and could walk right into a top 4 role.

Yeah...he said that all along. He mentioned that the tweet was just a "tease" for his article coming out around midnight. He tweeted this an hour ago.

OK, someone just threw out the correct name. Answer can be found in Penguins story to be posted on paper's website sometime after midnight.

He's not a top 4 D-man. Maybe he will be some day but not this season. It's got to be Nisky.

The only thing is that I guessed Bortuzzo and he was still saying that nobody had guessed the correct person yet, so either he had not seen my tweet yet or it is not him. It was one of the later guesses though.

Bortuzzo still has top-4 potential in my eyes, a below average top-4 defender, but he could still play that role. On paper their styles would seem to match well, but giving Bortz that responsibility/minutes out of the gate.

I'd actually be content with HCDB giving Bortz not only a spot on this team, but one with an expanded role. Better than ******* Lovejoy or Reese. It balances out the D-core a little more too.

We'll see. But this is a lot better than, let's say, a Martin-Niskanen combo...that'd be...ugh

Orpik-Letang
Martin-Bortuzzo
Niskanen-Engelland
(whoeverelseidontcare)

I think the D will look something like,
Letang-Orpik
Nisky-Martin
Engelland-Strait/Bortuzzo
That third pairing could rotate in and out of the lineup depending on who's playing the best. Lovejoy will be traded or waived and Despes will be first call up. Injuries will be a plenty so I expect quite a few D-men will get NHL games this season.
