We aren't giving up Smith with Konopka and Carkner gone, now Cowen is gone for the season we aren't giving up more grit and toughness out of the lineup, if anything we will be looking to add into the lineup.
I am interested in Murray for the sens, other than Smith not sure which center will interest SJ, O'Brien or Regin.
How about Lars Eller and a third rounder in 2013 for Ryane Clowe and your first rounder in 2013? Eller while struggling at faceoffs is young and promising. Plus he is signed to a cap-hit friendly contract and will be only a rfa after the 13/14 season. Clowe will be an UFA after next season. If he signs an extension with Montreal you'll also receive a second round pick in 2014.
As a fan of both teams, Sharks get shafted. I'd love something along the lines of Clowe + Murray for Gionta and Emelin.
It's hard to believe the value of Handzus over the past year. I recall some Kings fans wanting to keep Zus and trade Stoll instead. I think Wilson rolls the dice and hopes he rights the ship this season.
My condolences to Moore and his family. That's terrible
A rested Handzus for 1/2 season should be more then enough good for 3rd line center duty.
He might not be a 40+Pts/20G player anymore but he's still a terrific defensive player that can do PK, will win you faceoffs, decent in shootouts and can provide a front net presence on the PP...
Oh God this is so wrong. Handzus is terrible now. Dude should retire. (I agree with the bolded though)
This thread is screaming Frans Neilsen. Unfortunately we can't replace Frans just yet. If Strome or Nelson are able to step up into the 2C role, then we might have a deal here.

No way would they take Regin, hes as fragile as they come. O'brien is a less physical but smarter Smith.
Smith fits the OP's description to a tee.
I would agree that with Carks out of the lineup we aren't as tough but Konopka? I doubt anyone is scared of his tree hugging fighting style.

Frans for Murray +3rd?
In a heartbeat. Nielsen is perfect.

Murray
for
Jeffery + Sneep/Strait (some NHL ready replacement)?
I don't see them needing a 3rd line center right now. I think they're going to take their chances with James Sheppard before they decide to look elsewhere. He's done well in Worcester thus far during the lockout, they spent a 3rd rounder on him, and are likely to re-sign him as soon as the CBA is ratified. Handzus is not guaranteed a 3rd line spot either as he had been scratched for a few playoff games and relegated to the 4th line for the couple he got in for.
I can see Malhotra going to the Sharks, solid face off man and two way forward, apparently a good guy in the lockerroom too.

Why would he say no? Bad blood?
Murray would be good for the depth in Vancouvers defence short term for another run at the cup, which really only sport Alberts (not really good enough) and Connauton (to young). Some grit would be more than welcome. Murray and Malhotra is about the same age, salary and has probably about the same durability (Murray has probably a lower durability but he play D so he can cope). Add in a 3d round and it is done.
No bad blood at all. Malhotra actually talked to DW after he got Vancouver's offer to see if DW wanted to match it. I just don't see DW trading for him when he could have signed him earlier, too much pride.
Not too sure Malhotra is the 3C the Sharks need after his eye injury though.
