Exclusive: #Habs will open season Saturday Jan 19 vs #Leafs in MTL, #NHL sources tell @TVASports. #Sens will play #Jets the same day
That doesn't surprise me at all. I wouldn't be surprised to see Calgary/Edmonton that day as well as part of a HNIC triple header. I just hope the Rangers get to play that day as well.

kovalchuk talks. "not in a hurry to get to america... Time will tell (if i stay in the khl). Nothing is out of the question" #njdevils
When's the last time the Cowboys won the Super Bowl?
I get that, it's just amusing to me watching teams bicker and drop references to success a decade or two ago. It's like the guy that finishes second to last talking **** to the guy that finishes last. It's just ridiculous.

I finally reached Kovalchuk’s agent, Jay Grossman, this morning, but he remained tight-lipped.
“I’m still working on the situation, but I don’t have anything to say about Kovy’s situation,” Grossman said.
When asked about Kovalchuk still being on the KHL all-star roster, Grossman replied, “I don’t think it makes any sense whatsoever to inflame the situation at all, so I don’t want to say anything more than that.”
It's ultimately not a big deal, he'll come back, but it does make the Devils have to say they're "ok" with him skipping the first day of training camp to play in an all-star game in another league. Can't imagine they're too happy about that, but they can't afford to discipline him either
Why wait this long to fire him? Did he do something that pissed someone off? Maybe he was more on the players side than the owners up to this point? Maybe he straight up said he would not stay if they traded for Luongo?
I think it was Larry Brooks that reported Burke was trying hard to make the new CBA punish teams that had "cap circumventing deals". Maybe he flipped his **** about the CBA and the owners got sick of it and canned him

Good riddance
May 5, 2004.
The last date the Toronto Maple Leafs skated on playoff ice
He certainly did nothing in his tenure that had an impact of possibly changing that...
Sad, sad thing in Toronto
Maybe Toronto gets a second team and they become a PO regular instead of the Leafs
How ironic would that be?
Just a few misguided decisions that really kept that team from seeing any success. Can't fault the guy for the Kessel trade. Kind of hard to assume a team you think will be successful will ultimately end up with #2 and #9 overall picks in back to back years. Plus, Kessel has played quite well for them.
It's amazing how hell bent most Leafs fans, as well as the media, are hell bent on Toronto tanking their way to victory.

I have a feeling he put his foot down and said "no" to the Luongo trade. The owners want him, Burke doesn't.
Burke and Sather are good friends. I wonder if Burke will find his way onto the Rangers staff for this season.....
NO THANKS!!!
lol
Please, God.
Jeff Gorton has been doing a FANTASTIC job in his role, which is basically a step behind being the GM. He does a lot of the leg work getting this team together.
Gorton NEEDS to be the next GM of the Rangers, as Sather retains his position of president of the club. When the time comes.
I agree with you SSM, but the Rangers have other positions besides AGM. Sather must respect Burke at least as they are known to be friends. Riseborough was brought in after he was fired in Minnesota. The larger the collection of hockey minds the more apt they are to get things right.
