Gionta to Pittsburgh

Gionta and Tinordi to Pittsburgh for Kennedy and Despres.

Have at you!

Not bad. Not sure why either team does it.

No, and I in particular don't want to trade him. But I like Gionta as a leader with a RH shot and scoring skill, and Tinordi would recoup Despres' defense and then some...even if he's not near the same offensive player (we have more than a few of those in the system, anyway).

Awful for Montreal. Despres isn't nearly good enough of a prospect to give away A 20-30 goal scorer and our captain to boot.

I don't see this as close for the Habs? Gionta > Kennedy, and I think that despite the stylistic differences the Habs are pretty set/hopeful on developing Tinordi into a player teams will covet. (Not sure that will work out according to plan, but at any rate, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't trade him for Despres - I might be tempted - but the Habs seem to have high hopes for Tinordi).

Nothing's wrong. He's progressing just fine. There seems to be a mentality that he is one of the most expendable players in the Pens' defensive prospect pool. His ceiling isn't quite as high as Maatta, Pouliot, or Morrow. He could end up a complementary piece on a top pair, but most likely tops out as a very good second pairing guy. However, he is close to being an NHL player.

EDIT: Staying on topic, I wouldn't do the deal. I wouldn't really want to include Despres in a deal for a guy like Gionta. If we trade any of our high end prospects, it should be for a younger winger or in a package for a huge player, like Iginla (still up there in age, but still an elite player) or Perry. Just my opinion. Value is fair though, I'd say.

I came up with the proposal based on the idea that Gionta is generally considered more valuable than Kennedy (even after last season) and Despres is generally considered a more valuable prospect than Tinordi.

But if Habs fans are high enough on Tinordi that they believe they're equal, then the proposal's dead in the water. No sweat, just throwing it out there.

Something tells me Gionta would be awesome on Pitt.

I'd like to see Gionta on the pens but they would defiantly need to dump Paul Martin.

I would rather get a gritty forward who can score (e.g. Ryane Clowe, Jamie McGinn, Chris Stewart or Ryan Malone)

As much as Kennedy is a good player, trading our captain and before this last year twice in a row 29 goal scorer for an upgrade in depres( not to mention we traded up to get tinordi so the org is high on him", we need some serious size on our d corps.

No thanks!

Gionta's definitely worth more than Kennedy, and while Despres might be worth more than Tinordi it's very close so I don't think Habs would do this.

I dont see Montreal willing to trade there Captain with such a young team.

And Tinordi is really good and a highly coveted prospect by MTL and for good reason, seemed to do everything for the Knights last year in there run to the Mem cup. Despres might have more value cause he is futher ahead but Tinordi could be just as far along by the time he is Despres's age maybe ever futher.

As a habs fan it a no for me ... I think tinordi will be the best fit possible for subban in hopefully 2years ... Gionta will have a good season on plekanec right side so my gess is that if we really want to move him it will be at the deadline and it will be cause mtl is off playoff race !!

It's not that Despres isn't progressing or that he is expendable. It's that we have a deep defensive prospect pool and can trade for our biggest need: a winger for Crosby.

I might do this trade, but I'm not a big Gionta fan..
