I expected them to get a rest and not play tonight. It will be interesting to know exactly when training camp starts and if Galchenyuk will be in one or both of the remaining games before camp begins.

It's just going to be fun to see him wearing a Habs jersey and skating with a real Habs team in scrimmages. Him and PK really seemed to hit it off, wonder if that's who they have in mind to stay with if he stays up, would probably be someone a little less flashy though.
Seeing how Plekanek had good chimistry with Kovalev and also Jagr. IMO Gally has a simillar game the these guys and I would not be suprised if he ends up having just as good chimistry with Gally. The other thing to consider is that Gally is in game shape, he is on a high and his timing will likely be a big step in front of guys that have not played all year.
For all these reasons I believe if he gets a look on one of the top lines he will stick with the team. Plek has suffer from a lack of Talent on his line all year last year; he will want to make sure Gally sticks with him....
I liked the way they answered the questions about Gally, especially confirming he's a center long-term, but MT mentioning it only takes 12 minutes of ice time per game to justify keeping a kid up scares me. That's just not enough TOI in Alex's very unique case.

I think he'll be great with either Pleks or Eller. I'm kind of hoping he makes it even though it might not be for the best.
Yep, once the 6th game is played, the ELC year is burned in other words.
This basically gives the Habs a maximum of like 15-18 days to evaluate what they have in Galchenyuk (5 days of camp and probably less than 2 weeks of games). Not a lot at all. The odds just increased that he is eventually sent back to Sarnia with this news, IMO.
I don't think burning off a year of ELC holds that much weight in the decision making as some may seem to believe.
If he helps the team he will stay up, if he doesn't he will be sent down regardless of the 5 games. It's Therrien's call not Bergevin's and imo our top6 will need a lot of help.
Why would he? On ice stuff like that all falls to Therrien, Bergevin is not going to mingle in his affairs. If Therrien wants to keep him, Bergevin won't say anything.

Because burning a year off his contract could have huge implications on cap in 2 years. (Bergevin's problem not Therrien) Bergevin will want to know that Therrien is sure about this.

Exactly!
I am not sure how Therrien could possibly be sure that Galchenhuk is ready to make the team when he won't even see him in a game situation prior to the season opener.

Bergevin said numerous times he let his hockey people do their job. If therrien wants galchenyuk he will keep him, unless galchenyuk has a hard time and in any case i doubt therrien would keep him if so... i like the fact therrien handled players like crosby letang and staal coming of juniors amd they become elite professionals.
It's the coaches job to think about short term success and the GM's job to consider the long term. Therrien will be judged by his wins today, not what Gally does in 5 years, and if Gally can help the team now, Therrien will want him to play, regardless if it's the best for Gally's career and the Habs payroll. So of course the GM should have input.
From the article on TSN it seems he can play 6 games and on the 7th he burns his first ELC year.
@TSNBobMcKenzie: That is, team could play underage junior for 5 games without burning a year of his entry level contract. A 6th game, tho, would burn year.
